Why I Count it all Joy Wednesday!

These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God. Titus 2: 4,5 God knew we women would need mentors. I am counting it all joy today that several women invested in my life. Helen was one of those “seasoned” women of God who knew how to share God’s Word, share His love and interact with women and offer Godly encouragement. I cherished the times I spent with Helen driving along to Women’s Seminars, Bible Studies or luncheons. I could talk Helen into just about anything and she would say: “let’s do it!” Once I hosted a “High Tea” in my home for all the ladies in our Bible study. Helen searched the thrift stores and found a costume to wear! What a sport. I was thinking about her over the weekend. We gals always knew when Helen’s wedding anniversary came along because she took a few days off and pl

Spiritual Sundays ~ The Recalled Egg

Did you hear about Lucerne recalling their eggs this week? I looked in my fridge. I did have a carton of Lucerne, but not the recalled numbers. Whew! My family will not get sick. The news station said the outcast eggs will need to be returned due to Salmonella fears. Sometimes I feel like the outcast egg. I need to be recalled when the world or the flesh or the devil infiltrate my life. I am praising God today for the blood of Jesus Christ. It is the place I go to be washed clean. He gives me a fresh start every time I return to Him! Spiritual Sundays is a great place to be refreshed in the spirit. Thank you, Charlotte and Ginger, and all the good writers who participate!

Friday Funnies!

Toward the end of Sunday service, the minister asked: “How many of you have forgiven your enemies?” 80% held up their hands. The minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one small elderly lady. “Mrs. Neely? Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?” “I don't have any.” She replied, smiling sweetly. “Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you?” “Ninety-eight,” she replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands. “Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell all of us how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?”' The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation and said, “I outlived all those bums.” Kim and the funny ladies at Friday Funnies are ready to make you laugh this Friday so be sure to drop by! Have a great weekend everyone.

I'm Counting it Joy, Buddy!

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 The further I continue in my journey of faith, I understand why I can count it all joy in my trials. It’s because the end result produces a blessing. I usually don’t feel victorious in the trial; I have to believe in faith a blessing is coming. It takes patience, less of me and my desires and more of God’s spirit to work out the “less” of me! Last winter I was rubbed the wrong way at work with a co-worker, Buddy. My client and I had developed that bond of trust and I knew he was ready to close the sale. The house I was selling was not a set up model at our store. He had to go to our sister store in Phoenix and view it there and Buddy aggressively stole my customer. Even when the client wrote me emails that he would rather purchase it from me, Buddy would not b

A Family Recipe!

My brother-in-law, Eduardo, sent me one of his favorite recipes last week. He and my sister, Judy, are so much fun to cook and bake with in the kitchen. I'm featuring "Chicken Piccata" today on my cooking blog, Kitchen Favorites through the Years . They tell me it's real easy, so that makes it a popular supper idea for me!

Spiritual Sundays ~ Bless our Nation

Like so many Americans, my hubby and I ate dessert in front of the T.V. while watching Glen Beck earlier this week. Beck made a good point on that particular program about the values his parents passed down to him. I thought about it. My parents passed down values to our family that, I feel, made us better Americans. Like Glen, I had a dad who began his day in prayer on his knees. You had to get up very, very early to see him in this posture at the kitchen table, but he was never ashamed to humble himself and pray to God. My mom taught me to never take my religious freedom for granted. She modeled her faith by involvement in church, our schools, our town and in our neighborhood. I saw hard work principles in my husband’s parents. My mother-in-law was frail in health, but she always prepared a homemade meal for her family spending hours in the kitchen. She was grateful for my father-in-law who worked hard at his job and never missed a day even on heavy snow days. I wonder how you woul

Friday Funnies ~ Going Green

We have to stop cutting down trees. This is getting serious! Yay, it's Friday! Laughter is good, like a medicine. So you should laugh today! Check out the funny gals at Kim's at Homesteader's Heart . Have a great day!

Why I Count it all Joy Wednesday!

The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds' feet, And makes me walk on my high places. Habakkuk 3:19 With a verse like this one, you’ve got to know that one of those life challenges has manifested. But my joy is intact! Last May of this year, I had a fairly large well repair bill. But I swallowed hard, paid the bill and praised God that we really haven’t had any well bills since last summer, 2009, when a Monsoon storm arose and lightening hit our well and damaged our pump. Then came June this year, and a breaker had to be repaired. At least this bill was significantly smaller! Last Thursday the pump died. Fortunately, we only had to be without water one day. The repairmen are fast…and expensive. This bill was three times the anticipated cost. I’m still reading it in disbelief. I am choosing joy today. There is nothing like flowing water to wash clothes and wash dishes with not to mention flushing the toilets. I can’t live without water. I can’t live without the

Spiritual Sundays ~ Wedding Anniversary

I remember when we sold one of our homes to a dancer who starred in one of the popular TV programs from the sixties. She decided to move to her Sedona property. She shared many things with me about Hollywood during each phase of the construction like when she dated Elvis. Personally, I’ve never been an Elvis fan, so I wasn’t impressed if he was a good kisser or not. The dancer married several times but now she found the dream man and now wanted the dream home. During one of her visits to my office, I was celebrating a wedding anniversary. I was taken aback when she asked me a personal question. What is the secret to a long- lasting marriage? I replied: “respect.” Ephesians 5:33 says” each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Women want to be loved and men want to be respected. Sounds simple right? Ask any married couple. It is not easy to do. Our 39th wedding anniversary is today! We are still working at this Biblical principle!

Friday Funnies!

I rear-ended a car this morning. So there we were.... alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get so stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it... He was a DWARF! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, "I AM NOT HAPPY!" So, I looked down at him and said, "Well, then which one are you?" Have a happy day. Visit Kim and enjoy Friday Funnies . It will do you good!

Why I Count it all Joy Wednesday!

I’m dedicating my post today to my family. Each one has brought so much joy to my life. God blessed me with a family that is fun and wonderful. Angel at All The Mus hosts Why I Count it all Joy Wednesday. Stop by and visit the joyful posts! My husband flew to San Diego last week and spent a few days with the kids. They went to the beach together and toured Seaport Village. Susanna loved having her Papa there to care for her when her mom had to be out and about. He colored with her, took her for walks and even changed her diapers. I am so proud of him. I am proud of my daughter, Carrie, who is not only a great mom and teacher to Susanna but she’s learned so much this past year during difficult trials and tests. She is turning her pain into purpose and writes a blog about that here . While Papa babysat, she spoke to a crowd of 150 women sharing her faith at her church’s ladies night. It was awesome. I know some of you were praying. She was able to pray
