The news was on TV when I woke up yesterday and the anchors were scaring people with reports of radiation expected to fall on the United States from Japan. My husband mentioned that he wished he owned a Geiger counter. But I was in my favorite spot reading my Bible while drinking that first cup of coffee and God gave me a word.
The 700 Club came on next and we watched their news report featuring Jim Berkland, a geologist who predicts that the next earthquake expected to hit southern California can possibly develop as soon as this weekend when the moon will be closest to the earth than it has been in the last 20 years. We have a daughter and granddaughter there along with another daughter who is visiting! Now my word from the Lord meant even more. Here it is:
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come and mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Psalm 46:1-3, The New Living Translation
God’s Word is timely on any day, especially when they are saying the mountains are going to fall. What thrills me is I wasn’t even looking for this word; God found me and encouraged me as I sought Him! That’s personal.
Spiritual Sundays is hosted by Ginger and Charlotte here. It is one of the best places to be inspired and meet wonderful friends.

What a timely Word indeed Mary! It can be so easy to stay glued to the TV news and get scared. I'd rather focus on God's Word, no matter what's happening in this world. Btw, I love your new blog header.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Debbie
Timely and Personal!! Our God ~ sooo Love us and cares for every thought, every need and meets us right where we are! Sooo humbling!

AMEN! We need to remember that God is in control, and our future is secure in Him.
ReplyDeleteLove the Word you received. What a wonderful God who calms our fears and reminds us we are always safe in His arms!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful when God's words find us. Love that Psalm. So fitting!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary -
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this - especially this that you expressed, "What thrills me is I wasn’t even looking for this word; God found me and encouraged me as I sought Him! That’s personal."
That gave me heart fluuters, Mary.
The other day our Lord gave me a mountain smoking scripture. It is Exodus 20:18 - KJV
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
This is so timely....just when you needed to read it....a real sign of His caring.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Timely Word indeed. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteLiving squarely in the earthquake-volcano zones of the Pacific Coast, I can honestly I am undeterred by the likelihood of a major quake or eruption. That said, my heart aches for those that have been blighted by nature's furious displays. There's just something about bereft children, or the homeless aged that grips me every time.
ReplyDeleteSafe in His arms,
Kathleen
What a great title this is, Mary! Sounds like song ...
ReplyDeleteWhen all around us things appear frightening and out of control, we have to take a deep breath and realize there's only ONE in control!
Awesome. I like the title. Anywhere with Jesus...
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! God always has a timely word when we seek his face. How powerful!
Thanks for stopping by my devotional writing blog!

Living here in Corona CA. this scares me as well. I have to put it in the Lords hands others wise I would be a total mess 100% of the time.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this word from the Lord, reminding me that it is God who is our refuge and strength. When I am weak, He is strong; He is my shelter.
It seems that the theme today for Spiritual Sunday is that we're not alone, the Lord will never leave or forsake us. He is our shelter and strength.
Blessings and peace.

What a wonderful Word from the Lord. I think there's too much "hype", as someone recently said, going on. Thanks for your sweet visit and comments. Hugs and blessings ~
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouraging Word from God. I think we all need to hear that in these troubling times.
ReplyDeleteAmen! That's personal indeed and just like our GOD. He does it time and time again. When our hearts are open and seeking Him; He makes sure to pour into us exactly what we need even before or without our asking. He's faithful and His love is never ending.
ReplyDeleteBlessings under the Shelter of the Most High God my friend; for you and your family.
God is so good! He provides what we need even before we ask.
ReplyDeleteI once heard that the safest place to live in the U.S. is the point where Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona meet. There has never been an earthquake, tornado, flood, etc. there.
But I'm sure an even safer place is in Jesus arms...
His Word never fails to bring us peace, just when we need it the most.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by the blog and for your encouraging comment. Blessings to you this week.
peace~elaine
I'm so glad God gave YOU AND ME this word to stand on! Bless you!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how God encourages us just when we need it and sometimes before we even ask Him. My thoughts after the earthquake in Japan were on southern California too. I have so many friends and relatives who live there.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Charlotte
Isn't it wonderful when God speaks personally to us..He is our refuge and strength, so true..we can run and hide in Him at any time.
ReplyDeleteOn my health Blog you say your husband has has a cough for 6 months??
I am wondering if he has either of two things...the lesser is allergies..so have him take a very easy drink. Quarter of a cup of honey and quarter of a cup fresh lemon juice. One dessertspoon cooking oil. Mix all together and have him sip, mixing all the time so the oil wont float...Get him to do this for two days. Also taking Claritin tablets bought over the counter. This an antihistamine.
If this doesn't help, then I would be having him checked for heart problems...namely congestive heart failure.. Please don't be frightened about this, it can be helped especially if discovered early..
However...it may simply be that has allergies...I pray so!!!
