Under the Moon With Jesus

The news was on TV when I woke up yesterday and the anchors were scaring people with reports of radiation expected to fall on the United States from Japan. My husband mentioned that he wished he owned a Geiger counter. But I was in my favorite spot reading my Bible while drinking that first cup of coffee and God gave me a word.

The 700 Club came on next and we watched their news report featuring Jim Berkland, a geologist who predicts that the next earthquake expected to hit southern California can possibly develop as soon as this weekend when the moon will be closest to the earth than it has been in the last 20 years. We have a daughter and granddaughter there along with another daughter who is visiting! Now my word from the Lord meant even more. Here it is:

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come and mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Psalm 46:1-3, The New Living Translation

God’s Word is timely on any day, especially when they are saying the mountains are going to fall. What thrills me is I wasn’t even looking for this word; God found me and encouraged me as I sought Him! That’s personal.

Spiritual Sundays is hosted by Ginger and Charlotte here. It is one of the best places to be inspired and meet wonderful friends.

  2. What a timely Word indeed Mary! It can be so easy to stay glued to the TV news and get scared. I'd rather focus on God's Word, no matter what's happening in this world. Btw, I love your new blog header.

    Blessings and love,

  9. Hi Mary -

I really enjoyed this - especially this that you expressed, "What thrills me is I wasn’t even looking for this word; God found me and encouraged me as I sought Him! That’s personal."

That gave me heart fluuters, Mary.

The other day our Lord gave me a mountain smoking scripture. It is Exodus 20:18 - KJV
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

  12. Living squarely in the earthquake-volcano zones of the Pacific Coast, I can honestly I am undeterred by the likelihood of a major quake or eruption. That said, my heart aches for those that have been blighted by nature's furious displays. There's just something about bereft children, or the homeless aged that grips me every time.

    Safe in His arms,
    Kathleen

  13. What a great title this is, Mary! Sounds like song ...

When all around us things appear frightening and out of control, we have to take a deep breath and realize there's only ONE in control!

  17. Hi Mary,

Thank you for sharing this word from the Lord, reminding me that it is God who is our refuge and strength. When I am weak, He is strong; He is my shelter.

It seems that the theme today for Spiritual Sunday is that we're not alone, the Lord will never leave or forsake us. He is our shelter and strength.

    Blessings and peace.

  20. Amen! That's personal indeed and just like our GOD. He does it time and time again. When our hearts are open and seeking Him; He makes sure to pour into us exactly what we need even before or without our asking. He's faithful and His love is never ending.

Blessings under the Shelter of the Most High God my friend; for you and your family.

  21. God is so good! He provides what we need even before we ask.

I once heard that the safest place to live in the U.S. is the point where Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona meet. There has never been an earthquake, tornado, flood, etc. there.

But I'm sure an even safer place is in Jesus arms...

  24. It's amazing how God encourages us just when we need it and sometimes before we even ask Him. My thoughts after the earthquake in Japan were on southern California too. I have so many friends and relatives who live there.

  25. Isn't it wonderful when God speaks personally to us..He is our refuge and strength, so true..we can run and hide in Him at any time.

On my health Blog you say your husband has has a cough for 6 months??
I am wondering if he has either of two things...the lesser is allergies..so have him take a very easy drink. Quarter of a cup of honey and quarter of a cup fresh lemon juice. One dessertspoon cooking oil. Mix all together and have him sip, mixing all the time so the oil wont float...Get him to do this for two days. Also taking Claritin tablets bought over the counter. This an antihistamine.

If this doesn't help, then I would be having him checked for heart problems...namely congestive heart failure.. Please don't be frightened about this, it can be helped especially if discovered early..
However...it may simply be that has allergies...I pray so!!!

A Memorial Day Reflection

Memorial Day is always noteworthy for me and my girls.  Next Thursday marks the third year of missing their father, my husband. So many thoughts  run through my mind.  The journey of loss takes on various emotions.  The strongest feeling, at first, was emptiness.  In a split second, I would forget he departed forever.  I imagined things I needed to talk to him about when he got back home.  My mind is realistic now.  He's not coming back.  There will be no more times of sitting on the porch swing together on the front deck staring at the moon and the stars.  He would tell me all he knew about the majestic night sky. I have so much I wish I could tell him, like the excitement of seeing our oldest grandchild make a decision to follow Jesus and get baptized on Mother's Day!  And our little Amy, 11 years old, I wish he could have seen her on stage receiving her induction to the National Honor Society. Our daughters have their own ...

Mama's Lipstick

I always wished I could do things with my mom like shop in the mall, share makeup secrets or go to the movies and watch romantic comedies.  My wish never materialized.     My mama behaved like a tomboy.   She loved baseball and pitched with a strong right arm.   She could care less about the latest fashion or the latest movies featured on the big screen.   She never polished her fingernails.    One day after elementary school, I walked into the house to find my mom all dolled up in front of the bathroom mirror, foundation crème, powder, eyebrow pencil and rouge all over the counter sink.  “Who are you?” I asked, thrilled to see my mama putting on the Ritz.  Makeup in place and blotted, she immediately took it off.  “I don’t like the way it feels,” she exclaimed. She retired in Arizona and protected her dry lips with a light rose lipstick, the color of natural lips, a step above ChapStick.  She wore it a few tim...

Book Review of Biblical Minimalism and Give Away

What does minimizing look like?  To the empty nester it may mean downsizing real estate.  To the co-dependent, it may mean pitching some toxic friendships they tend to collect.  I thought I had a handle on Biblical minimalism, but I wasn’t even close.  Biblical minimalism is much more than cleaning out a drawer and discarding unwanted things into a box to take to the thrift store. In her book, Biblical Minimalism, Cheryl E. Smith defines Biblical minimalism as “a complete, whole person release of anything unlike Jesus, a letting go of everything that hinders us from following Him wholeheartedly and single- mindedly , and a relinquishing of all that brings us under bondage to this earthly, very temporary life.” The author gives us a visual of a whole pie that is divided into eight slices.  Each slice describes our lives with areas to analyze to see if pruning or adjustment is needed.  I won’t name them all, but one example is the “emotional ...
