Thankful Thursday - Possibilities


When I think of possibilities, I remember my mulberry tree. For years, I had a hard time blocking the strong sun on my back deck, right off my kitchen. The strong winds would come and blow off every umbrella I would mount on that deck. In my frustration, I stood on the side of my deck one day and prayed to the Lord for help. I truly believed with all my heart that He would give me wisdom but I never would have guessed how the problem would be solved. The following year, a mulberry branch began to grow between the planks at the end of the deck on the side right where I prayed. Each year, it grew so strong and thick that two years ago, my husband had to cut a ten-inch hole in the deck so as not to impair its growth! In the spring and summer, the shade from the tree covers one half of the deck providing the needed relief from the sun so we can enjoy barbecues.

Yesterday, I studied the passage in Luke 17:6 and read that if you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea” and it will obey you!
Another mustard seed text is Matthew 17:20: If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.

On this journey of faith, I’m thankful that even when my faith seems small to me, God can still do the impossible. My mulberry tree is living proof.

    This was a great post. All this time when I looked at that tree growing out of your deck, I always thought it was a nuisance, but it was actually an answer to your prayer! It just goes to show that "blessings" are not one-size-fits-all. They are tailored just for what we need, God will always meet us where we are. He knows us best! You are an awesome prayer warrior mom!

    Oh that gave me chills!!!! I absolutely love it when God gives us pictures of His faithfulness, care and love and we notice them!!! Thank you for sharing this. Thank you, too, for your comment on my blog. I am really grateful for the encouragement!!!!

I'm Going as Abigail This Year

I vote for more purses, toothbrushes, cups, storybooks, and Halloween costumes that feature Abigail of the Old Testament.  She is a heroin worthy to emulate, in my opinion, even more than Cinderella. Once upon a time, there was a kind woman by the name of Abigail who lived with a surly man who liked to drink a lot and have parties.  One time, King David and his army were very hungry and entered the surly man’s homestead and asked if they could come to his barbecue.  The king had a right to ask because he and his men protected the homestead’s boundary lines.  The surly man said “No.  Get off my property.”  The King had a temper and became offended. Spiritual Sundays

My pastor started his Father’s Day Message last Sunday because he knew it would run for two weeks. He began his remarks with “rules that men have for their wives.” I think you will find these humorous: 1. Men are not mind readers. 2. Learn to work the toilet seat. You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 3. I am in shape. Round is a shape. 4.
