Why is it important that you
are with God and God alone on the mountain top? It's important because it's the
place in which you can listen to the voice of the One who calls you the
beloved. To pray is to listen to the One who calls you "my beloved daughter,"
"my beloved son," my beloved child." To pray is to let that voice
speak to the center of your being, to your guts, and let that voice resound in
your whole being.
--Henri Nouwen
I really like the word I heard in my spirit for the
coming year. “This will be the year of My
favor and loving-kindness.” A confirmation of this word quickened inside
me when our wood burning stove got too
hot and six-inch flames sprouted from the chimney. Fortunately, we had a flare close by to
extinguish the hot fire quickly. Then I
remembered God’s promise of grace.
I got a call at work to rescue my husband who was
stranded because his truck wouldn’t start.
By the time I got there, a friendly gent had it running with a
jump. It turned out to be a loose wire
but we were glad it happened because we discovered a damaged hose that needed
replacement. Then I remembered God’s
promise of grace.
I never did get my kitchen drain working well during December,
the cooking and baking month! When we got
home after the Christmas Eve service, I noticed we had no water. Thankfully, it wasn’t a problem with the well
again; the culprit turned out to be a kitchen pipe that was leaking under the
house. When the pipe was cut and
repaired, we were able to also snake out the clog and now my drain works
fast! Then I remembered God’s promise of
grace.
This coming year should be an interesting discovery of
the favor of the Lord. I intend to keep
a journal and give Him all the glory!

ReplyDeleteGreat is Thy faithfulness...morning by morning new mercies I see. One of my favorite verses. My husband says that he opens the door and there is a briefcase full of new blessings for the day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post, Mary...discovering God's loving-kindness everywhere. The thing I noticed in your post was that it was in the HARD things in life that you found His loving-kindness, this grace that He gives. Praying for a wonderful grace filled year for you, Mary.

ReplyDeleteDear Mary
ReplyDeleteI've not been able to visit my blog friends the past two months, but you have been on my heart. And yes, I am rejoicing with you in the grace filled moments of your life. God's word for me is Camel, for the year 5773 in the Hebraic Calendar is precisely that! I will believe that my camels are coming this year, laden with provision and gifts from above!
Rejoicing with you, yes I am...
Love
Lidia
PS I must add that I really loved that quote from Henri Houwen. He is my top favorite author!

ReplyDeleteA sign of His favor - His smile and His loving Presence!
GOD BLESS!
I love that you do the one-word journey too! I've learned that the significance of the word, if chosen by the Holy Spirit's leadng, has so much spiritual muscle behind it that it becomes a learning tool that enriches our relationship with Jesus and makes it blossom like Springtime! My 2013 word is faith. In Hebrews it says "through faith she did" and "through faith he did" etc. The brand of faith I'm seeking is "through faith". May God bless our journeys this year! Love you! Kay
