Spiritual Sundays - Religious Freedom

When I linked up to Spiritual Sundays, I noticed Charlotte's mention of tomorrow being a Sunday that we celebrate religious freedom. Remember Alabama Judge Roy Moore? He was removed from the bench by the ACLU because he refused to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom wall. Now they are trying to strip his right to practice law.

Some say that he wrote this poem. My research shows that may be true, but also that he quotes it in his speeches.

America, the beautiful?,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray

We've kept God in our
temples, how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the
womb.

You think that God's not
angry, that our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
If you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee..

  5. this is powerful and sad. I heard a minister say we're like a frog being cooked. To cook it..it's put in cold water and then slowly heated up. The frog never realizes it's being cooked at all. Good for the judge for taking a stand. He is a light.....

  7. I love the new header, too! Beautiful family!
    I read the poem slow and it's sad that every word was true in America's spiritual condition now. The jails are over-crowded. Many incarcerated with lots of heinous crimes but drugs is a major contributing factor. Not much is done.
    Even in politics, there is just no fear anymore of God. But even sadder, are those that are supposed to shepherd the flock for Him, are not saying as much about His Truth.
    Thank you sister Mary for your prayers. I have comfort now and my family with this change of my schedule. It really helps to ask Him to see any change through His eyes not mine. It's very comforting that even when we see many changes that we don't like somehow, we just know it's what He wants and definitely, it's what is best. Then no matter what goes on around us despite the evil days, it's comforting to know deep in the Spirit, He is in control!!! To God be the glory! Love you sister and keep smiling!!!

  11. Thank you, Mary. Just yesterday my daughter and I were talking about how I should apply for a teaching job at a Christian school. Things are dark in the public school and kids are lost. I love being a light there, but sometimes it's SO disheartening.

  13. I don’t know if Judge Moore wrote that or not, but it definitely sounds like something he would say. I have been so proud of his stand in Alabama (my state). Thanks for sharing this.

  14. That is so overwhelming and disconcerting. I pray for our country.

  15. I admire the courage of men and women who remained steadfast and stood on what they believe in no matter how many hardships they have to confront.

    Thank you for this very beautiful hopeful post. I read somewhere that says, 'Write in your heart that everyday is the best day of your life'. So today seems like a good day for a hopeful new beginning!

    Thanks for your friendship on blogosphere. I am taking my leave from it- and 'moving on' from the space which has given me much comfort from caring friends. Be blest!

    love,

  18. Sad, but true...

    How this country needs a revival - a return to the God we USED to trust.

    GOD BLESS!

  19. These words are sadly true~America has departed from the truths on which she was found.
    As we humble ourselves in prayer and seek God's face, He promises to save our land. May He have mercy on us.
    Enjoyed my visit here and the pictures of your family across the header.
    Blessings,
    Janis

  20. It is so sad. Makes you wonder how long God will tolerate what is going on in this country and around the world.

Book Review of Biblical Minimalism and Give Away

What does minimizing look like?  To the empty nester it may mean downsizing real estate.  To the co-dependent, it may mean pitching some toxic friendships they tend to collect.  I thought I had a handle on Biblical minimalism, but I wasn’t even close.  Biblical minimalism is much more than cleaning out a drawer and discarding unwanted things into a box to take to the thrift store. In her book, Biblical Minimalism, Cheryl E. Smith defines Biblical minimalism as “a complete, whole person release of anything unlike Jesus, a letting go of everything that hinders us from following Him wholeheartedly and single- mindedly , and a relinquishing of all that brings us under bondage to this earthly, very temporary life.” The author gives us a visual of a whole pie that is divided into eight slices.  Each slice describes our lives with areas to analyze to see if pruning or adjustment is needed.  I won’t name them all, but one example is the “emotional ...

Mama's Lipstick

I always wished I could do things with my mom like shop in the mall, share makeup secrets or go to the movies and watch romantic comedies.  My wish never materialized.     My mama behaved like a tomboy.   She loved baseball and pitched with a strong right arm.   She could care less about the latest fashion or the latest movies featured on the big screen.   She never polished her fingernails.    One day after elementary school, I walked into the house to find my mom all dolled up in front of the bathroom mirror, foundation crème, powder, eyebrow pencil and rouge all over the counter sink.  “Who are you?” I asked, thrilled to see my mama putting on the Ritz.  Makeup in place and blotted, she immediately took it off.  “I don’t like the way it feels,” she exclaimed. She retired in Arizona and protected her dry lips with a light rose lipstick, the color of natural lips, a step above ChapStick.  She wore it a few tim...

Abba's Lap

I noticed a behavior pattern in little Amy, twenty months old, that I want to imitate.  She moves fast engaging in one toddler activity after another spinning like a whirlwind from one room to another.  Yet, she pauses,  intermittently , long enough to get refreshed.   I want to be like this grandchild of mine because she knows where to go and how to get comforted. Amy moves at record speed, putting more miles on a pedometer in one hour than my accumulated weekly workouts at the gym.  She can build a skyscraper so tall, I wonder why those bright pink Lego’s don’t topple to the ground as she continues to stack just one more piece on top. I learned never to leave the room to get another cup of coffee.  Once, when I returned, I found her climbing past the couch with hands and feet reaching for the living room drapes. She has a consistent habit that I admire.  In the midst of her activities, as she moves robustly from one play...
