In his book, A Simple Christmas, Mike Huckabee tells of his early childhood days and believes that the blasting Rock music he listened to in his early years at the highest volume levels attributed to his hearing problems today. Maybe that’s my problem. I’m a child of the sixty’s and I blasted my Rock ’n’ Roll “records”. It was hilarious to be in my kitchen this morning and hear my hubby’s and my exchange of words. “Say again?” must have been repeated a few times! We laughed!
Last weekend I attended a memorial service for the dad of my friend, Sue. Afterwards, Sue invited us all to a sit down dinner with her and I sat next to my dear old friend, Herman, a man in his late 80’s. Herman probably didn’t listen to loud rock music in Germany where he grew up because even at his old age, he could hear better than I could. The nice thing is that older people are more patient with you than younger ones. Herman didn’t get out of sorts when he repeated his question for me more than once.
I thought about all of this during my prayer time this morning. God, as old as He is, is not hard of hearing. Sometimes I think He is because the answer or solution is slow in coming, but no, I see too many promises in His Word to know that He cares and hears me when I call. In Psalm 139, in Verse 4 it says: “For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” That’s even closer than hearing me! No communication gap there between us and I don’t even have to speak!
Isaiah 58:9 says “Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help and He will say: Here I am.”
I like Psalm 91:15: He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
I praise Him today. He not only hears me, but He is willing to answer me and even rescue me!

Yes, and His listening is so holy, so real, so eternal. Thank you for a sweet post. Merry Christmas, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI have found that often the answer seems slow in coming because the journey can be more important than the destination.
