A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On!


Is it just me or do you see a lot of shaking going on among us these days? It amazes me how so many lives turn upside down in just a matter of minutes.


Last Thursday I was driving into town to get groceries when the dark rain clouds threatened overhead. You learn to go on with life where I live in Arizona because “isolated” thunderstorms are just that…they hit where they want to and sometimes it is right before your eyes. That’s what happened in Sedona that day and the west section of town got five inches of rain in a quick downpour. Many visiting a resort lost their cars to the rage of water. I heard about this storm on the news (photo). Oddly, when I got home that day, there was not a drop of rain; I’m about 12 miles, as a crow flies, from Sedona.


This morning, my friend, Sue, sent an email about a little 8 year old boy, Sam, who lives in the Midwest. His constant knee pain last month turned out to be an aggressive stage 4 cancer and his family’s lives changed overnight.


All it takes sometimes is just one phone call to change the course of our future. How do you find consolation in these stressful times of shaking?


In Hebrews 12:28 it says: “Since we are receiving a kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshipping Him with holy fear and awe.” I find comfort in knowing the Kingdom of God is unshakable. I have an eternal hope and I’m privileged to be able to enter into God’s very presence where I can praise Him or talk to Him or just sit with Him. I’m seeking His grace because I long to serve Him with reverence regardless of what is falling apart in my life. It is hard! God’s Word is filled with promises I can hang onto for my unique situation. I dwell on them! I’m thankful for them because the enemy wants to convince me that my situation is hopeless and I’m defeated. Jesus defeated Satan with the Word and so can I.


Praise God for encouraging us with unshakable faith in Him when a whole lot of shaking is going on!

    You're so right Mary. One phone call or event can turn our lives upside down. I do believe there's a whole lot of shaking going on. I continue to think of you and to pray.

    So true, Mary, we don't know from one moment to the next what life will hand us, both in our personal lives, and in our nation. There is a shaking going on, it could be war, it could be disease, but we know who holds us in His hands.

    Your post is a great reminder that anything can happen anytime at just a blink of an eye. Your life can change 360 degrees sometimes just like that. And I had seen it from a good friend of mine.

    yes it is hard! so is steel when the edge gets filed to a sharp point.
    otherwise it is just a dangerous dull instrument of destruction set up for self imposed injury.

    It is so true how life can change in an instant! But our Lord and Savior is the same yesterday, today and forever! I rest on that daily!

    From someone who has received those life changing phone calls... I can so relate to this post! And each and every day I have rested in knowing that the LORD is with me every step, every tear, every situation, and even every celebration of the good things ~ every step of the way HE is there!!! He watches over HIS word to perform it!

    When my world rocks, and lately it's been sort of outa control, I'm almost relieved because it means I must be doing something right or else the enemy wouldn't be working so hard to shake things up! Of course, I know the kind of shaking you reference here is "crisis mode" and I praise our Living Lord Jesus Christ that He lets us cling to Him! Love so undeserved, yet given to us to freely!

    Boy isn' that the truth. I've always said you never know from one day to the next what may happen. It is so comforting to know that God is still in control and all will be well in the end if we belong to him. We haven't had as many storms this summer as we usually have. I guess the monsoon season will soon be over. I hope we get some more rain, but not as much as they got in Sedona. I didn't realize you lived so close to there.

Let's Live Together

I took a Ziploc bag of frozen pork chops out of the freezer and set them in the refrigerator to thaw.  I decided to make one of my favorite crock pot recipes with them.  I threatened the husband with a black eye if he ate the last of the sour cream because I needed it for that simple recipe. Hearts for the Kingdom Author Interview
