A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On!

Is it just me or do you see a lot of shaking going on among us these days? It amazes me how so many lives turn upside down in just a matter of minutes.

Last Thursday I was driving into town to get groceries when the dark rain clouds threatened overhead. You learn to go on with life where I live in Arizona because “isolated” thunderstorms are just that…they hit where they want to and sometimes it is right before your eyes. That’s what happened in Sedona that day and the west section of town got five inches of rain in a quick downpour. Many visiting a resort lost their cars to the rage of water. I heard about this storm on the news (photo). Oddly, when I got home that day, there was not a drop of rain; I’m about 12 miles, as a crow flies, from Sedona.

This morning, my friend, Sue, sent an email about a little 8 year old boy, Sam, who lives in the Midwest. His constant knee pain last month turned out to be an aggressive stage 4 cancer and his family’s lives changed overnight.

All it takes sometimes is just one phone call to change the course of our future. How do you find consolation in these stressful times of shaking?

In Hebrews 12:28 it says: “Since we are receiving a kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshipping Him with holy fear and awe.” I find comfort in knowing the Kingdom of God is unshakable. I have an eternal hope and I’m privileged to be able to enter into God’s very presence where I can praise Him or talk to Him or just sit with Him. I’m seeking His grace because I long to serve Him with reverence regardless of what is falling apart in my life. It is hard! God’s Word is filled with promises I can hang onto for my unique situation. I dwell on them! I’m thankful for them because the enemy wants to convince me that my situation is hopeless and I’m defeated. Jesus defeated Satan with the Word and so can I.

Praise God for encouraging us with unshakable faith in Him when a whole lot of shaking is going on!

  2. So true, Mary, we don't know from one moment to the next what life will hand us, both in our personal lives, and in our nation. There is a shaking going on, it could be war, it could be disease, but we know who holds us in His hands.

Really enjoyed reading your post today. I'm quite behind, so now I'm going on to Spiritual Sunday.

    God bless,
    Mary

  3. Your post is a great reminder that anything can happen anytime at just a blink of an eye. Your life can change 360 degrees sometimes just like that. And I had seen it from a good friend of mine.

Thanks be to God for the stability we have in Jesus. Wow! That was an awful flash flood! I'm glad you're okay! Love and blessings to you sister!

  7. From someone who has received those life changing phone calls... I can so relate to this post! And each and every day I have rested in knowing that the LORD is with me every step, every tear, every situation, and even every celebration of the good things ~ every step of the way HE is there!!! He watches over HIS word to perform it!

I love you Mary....still praying and claiming those promises for you and your family!

  8. When my world rocks, and lately it's been sort of outa control, I'm almost relieved because it means I must be doing something right or else the enemy wouldn't be working so hard to shake things up! Of course, I know the kind of shaking you reference here is "crisis mode" and I praise our Living Lord Jesus Christ that He lets us cling to Him! Love so undeserved, yet given to us to freely!

  9. Boy isn' that the truth. I've always said you never know from one day to the next what may happen. It is so comforting to know that God is still in control and all will be well in the end if we belong to him. We haven't had as many storms this summer as we usually have. I guess the monsoon season will soon be over. I hope we get some more rain, but not as much as they got in Sedona. I didn't realize you lived so close to there.
    Hugs,
    Charlotte

Because He Lives, I Can Move

I’m currently in one of those places where you lay out all the options and then you make the best decision. It seems, however, like none of the choices are fair or attractive. I know God will help me in my situation because I desire His guidance. I’m clinging to His Word which promises that ALL things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. I heard a great teaching this week about seeking God’s will and all the freedom that surrender brings. We can know that God is bringing about a victory if we trust Him with each and every decision. The speaker illustrated his point with a famous painting. The painting depicts a look of despair on the chess player’s face. He’s playing Satan and his soul is at stake. It looks like Satan is winning. Checkmate! When Paul Morphy saw this painting back in the 1800’s, he set up a chess board and aligned the pieces to reflect the painting. Being a world champion, he studied the board. His conclusi

Humor for the Bride and Groom

A young couple decided to wed.  As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive.  Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice.   "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage."  His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?"   "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancĂ© will be put off by them."  "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."   Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom."  Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful."  "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has

A Veteran's Story

I noticed Bill sitting in our local park where I walk.   He glanced my way just as I finished the last exercise walk song on my playlist.   He shouted and pointed to my car:   “Hey, is that your car with the Nam front license plate?   I stepped closer into the veranda where Bill sat on a picnic bench.   I noticed his Vietnam Vet cap and instantly I knew why I walked there that day.   The Marine Vet served during the 1960’s, the same time span as my husband.   Bill talked a lot about the war evoking my emotions from laughter to tears.   My South Vietnam front plate often prompts a conversation with a stranger and I’ve learned a deep respect for it over the years.   It is my way of listening to a veteran.   I enjoyed listening to Bill.   He made me laugh in spots but he made me cry as well.   Like when he talked about the sandwich lady.   “Do you ever eat at the sandwich shop in the gas station down the street?”   I replied that I’ve order coffee once in that place with a turke
