Thankful Thursday ~ Simplicity


For years the research has shown the most popular flavor of ice cream is plain old vanilla. I remember shopping with my dad several years ago and stopping for an ice cream cone with him at Baskin Robbins. He ordered vanilla and they were out! We had a good laugh. Oh, the simple things in life! I, on the other hand, had so many choices of ice cream I wanted to try, I didn’t know what I wanted.


Today, I’m thinking of the simple things in life and thanking God for them. I’m thankful for the foundational truth of the gospel. Jesus said:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

It’s simple, but it’s profound. There’s a lot of fancy, elaborate religions out there, but Jesus made it so simple. He invites us into a relationship with Him and promises us life everlasting. He offers abundant life to me today and also tomorrow and forever. For me, this truth never gets old. I’m thankful for my relationship with Him where every need is met.

    Very well said my friend. I love simplicity. Sometimes I think that things that are supposed to make our life "easier" actually distract us from what's important!

    We definitely need to get back to the simple life. I have been looking around at the "stuff" in our home and thinking about how much is really necessary. Well, certainly most of it is NOT.
    Jesus is the one and only true necessity in our lives.

A Memorial Day Reflection

  Memorial Day is always noteworthy for me and my girls.  Next Thursday marks the third year of missing their father, my husband. Mama's Lipstick

I always wished I could do things with my mom like shop in the mall, share makeup secrets or go to the movies and watch romantic comedies.  My wish never materialized.     My mama behaved like a tomboy.   She loved baseball and pitched with a strong right arm.   She could care less about the latest fashion or the latest movies featured on the big screen.   She never polished her fingernails.    One day after elementary school, I walked into the house to find my mom all dolled up in front of the bathroom mirror, foundation crème, powder, eyebrow pencil and rouge all over the counter sink.  “Who are you?” I asked, thrilled to see my mama putting on the Ritz.  Makeup in place and blotted, she immediately took it off.  “I don’t like the way it feels,” she exclaimed. Crisis Turned Blessing

“ I wasn’t worried when I rode in the ambulance because I knew you were praying for me .”  These are the words my husband whispered to me after facing a medical crises a few weeks ago. Complications set in a few days after Tom’s surgeon performed a procedure at the hospital.   He returned home, but lost so much blood due to an artery punctured during surgery.  His blood pressure dropped to 79/49 and we headed to the ER at the VA in Prescott where they then transferred him by ambulance to the civilian hospital and surgeon who performed the surgery.   It turned out to be an easy fix, but if he had waited a few more hours he would not have survived.
