Could Mighty Putty Wood pull Billy May’s ship out to sea?
Like me, you might have seen Billy Mays on the Pitchmen Show talk about all the majestic properties of Mighty Putty Wood and its miraculous feats. Billy was hanging from a boom on the HMS Bounty which is a reproduction, made in the 60’s for the movie, Mutiny on the Bounty. Two oars were joined together with Mighty Putty Wood and a chain was attached to both ends. One end of the chain was connected to a tugboat and the other chain end of the oar was connected to the HMS Bounty. Would the oars withstand the pull of the tugboat and the ship? It did and all were amazed.
This is a picture of me and my mustard-seed faith sometimes. Jesus says in Matt. 17:20, that if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you can move mountains.
I remember the time just about a year ago when I stood in a prayer line after a church service with a monumental need for deliverance of a burden I was carrying regarding a work situation. After my pastor prayed, I left the church and got in my car. I felt free for the first time in a week. I drove home singing in my car never to be attacked by that dark spirit again. My boss was more worried about me than the situation which turned out to be insignificant.
I remember another time the doctors chose not to operate on my husband’s stomach. They found a dark spot, eight centimeters, on his lung x-ray. We had to wait 3 weeks before they could perform a CAT scan. During that time, my mustard-seed faith stood on the healing promises of God. The CAT scan showed no abnormalities.
I’m encouraging myself today as I reflect on Jesus’ words. I have a mustard seed of faith and Jesus is the huge force in it that brings me victory through the gigantic challenges I’m currently facing. I expect to be amazed.
If you would like to join in and receive some encouragement today, go to Spiritual Sundays. Thank you, Ginger and Charlotte, for hosting! Bless you.
I've seen Billy Mays' commercials not only for Mighty Putty but other things. In fact, we ordered some of his Mighty Putty. It is totally worthless. Now faith on the other hand is the thing that is "mighty".
ReplyDeleteI had a mustard seed necklace many many years ago. Seems like everyone had one. I don't know whatever went with it. I wish I still had it.
Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Charlotte
Great message. I like the way you illustrated this....I also looked at Friday's Funnies. It was indeed funny! Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteGOD bless you, Mary. I, too am clinging to my mustard seed faith and I know that my LORD will reign victorious.
ReplyDeleteDid you see that you had an award at arise 2 write. Now it is two posts down. Thank you for being such an awesome prayer warrior and friend!!
Blessings, andrea
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI have always said "I have the gift of Faith" and ever since I "met" you I have seen that in you as well! It truly is a gift and when we operate in our gifts like you have, it brings glory to our Father!
I will join you in prayer for the gigantic challenge you are facing and ask the Holy Spirit to speak, encourage and comfort you along the way!
I thought of this scripture: I know that when we pray with "expectancy" It brings even more glory as we walk through the fire!
Love you!
Romans 5:3
There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit
I can totally relate with you as I had some problems at work. During this past week, it was that "mustard seed of faith" that had given me the courage to overcome that trial and as God saw that seed, I allowed Him to water that and that was the only time that I knew how to overcome it in His strength, not mine. Glory to God and His Word that never fades [unlike that "mighty putty" :)]...
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend sister! Blessings and love to you.
Wonderful post you've shared with us today. I liked your illustration. We all have a 'mustard seed' of faith at times. I think perhaps those are the times when we benefit from the biggest victories! Have a wonderful Sunday, my sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
God our Father is so faithful - just keep praying and you will be rewarded with his Grace.

Thank you, Mary, for this encouraging word. God is so faithful!
ReplyDeleteI feel so inspired by my visit this evening.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
Andrea
I found your post personally moving, Mary! So often, I'm (unnecessarily) caught up by worry/fear. Thank you for sharing your story... that I, too, might be encouraged and adopt the faith of the mustard seed.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes,
Myra
Hi, Mary. I've never seen that specific commercial, but I love your application. This proved to be very encouraging to me. Thank you for bolstering my faith.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day worshiping Him.
When I teach a class I like to give the ladies a little something. Once I gave them all a small braclet with a mustard seed on it. They only cost very little for a pack of 20. Thank-you for such a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Ginger
It's reassuring to note that faith is even stronger than the putty touted.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad about mustard seed faith! Goodness knows, sometimes, that's all we have. But thank God, that is enough-as you have so eloquently shared :O) Enough to move mountains. Thanks for an encouraging post!
ReplyDeleteI've stood on that quaking ground many a time, when faith alone kept me upright. Never, never, never has the Lord failed me. Now, when trouble comes to call, I am much quicker to reach for Him, sometimes with excited expectation as I ask: "Oh Father, how on earth will You ever fix this one?"
ReplyDeleteBe blessed, my friend. I pray His peace over you, His joy in you, and His firm grip around you.
Kathleen
Encouraging. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGreat post today!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great reminder to me - to put it all at the foot of the cross and move on with my day knowing that my answer will be in accordance to God's will.
I pray that your challenges will be lightened as you put them at the foot of the cross and that you will find comfort and strength from the Lord through it all.
Blessings on your day,
Kymber
I love your statement "I expect to be amazed." Me too!! What good thing is God going to do today?
ReplyDeleteMary this is beautiful and I love the testimony of your husbands stomach...
ReplyDeleteI constantly hear Jesus' words to Jarius in Mark 5..."Only believe".
WOW!
Love you dear one and thank you for your piles of smiles which I love seeing when I visit your blog.
I pray your family is well.
Mary,
ReplyDeleteRest in His love for you. Know that He loves you unconditionally. We can not truly trust someone that we are not confident that has our best interest and loves us. We can try. But we will fail when it starts to look grim. But, It is easy to trust the One that we know truly loves us! And God does because that is who He is.
You were created by Him to be loved!
Christy
Mary it amazes me what can happen if we just have faith. It is faith that has got me through so much in my life. Thanks for your post.
ReplyDeleteBilly Mays is certainly a memorable person. I like how you used him as an illustration. I sometimes forget that all I need is faith as small as a mustard seed and there's power.
