The
last thing I wanted to do last Sunday morning was attend church. My husband insisted we go so I said a quick
prayer of exchange while putting on my makeup.
“Lord, I exchange my shoddy attitude for your will and I know you’ll lead
me and I’ll follow.” Amen.
Once
we passed the main highway that leads to Sedona, the gorgeous red rock city
that draws visitors from all over the world, I mentioned I would love to go there for a donut after church. A new
eatery opened and I heard it’s superb. Spontaneously,
we chose to skip church and get back on the highway! Tom didn’t have to ask me twice.
The
fresh snow-capped magnificent mountains thrilled us. I reached into my purse and grabbed my cell
phone to document the ride.
The outline of the mountains against the sky becomes crystal clear when
laden with snow. I knew we were in the
presence of the Creator.
We
experienced a high. My chocolate cake
donut ranked outstanding on the donuts scale.
Tom’s apple turnover deserved a blue ribbon. The proprietors, a young couple, told us they
start baking at 4:00 a.m. to open early and serve customers fresh pastry every
morning.
Please
overlook my cell phone version, but I think you’ll get an idea of our
spectacular view.
We returned home and felt supercharged. To experience God’s creation like this spills
over of His holiness and power. We felt
giddy with delight!
We caught the sermon on podcast on our
church website. But rarely does it snow like this and not only did we get to see it, we
were the only ones on the road!
Maybe
everybody else attended church?
I love this! Worship doesn't always mean four walls and an altar. Spontaneous Christianity can be celebrated where the spirit finds you. (If this doesn't make Mr. God smile, I don't know what does.)

What a fantastic day!
I think you got the best of both, by seeing the awesome beauty of creation and listening to the podcast.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular sights, indeed! Beautiful views of God's creation, combined with fine pastry - what else does one need?
ReplyDeleteYour post is pure delight to see that God is Everywhere. I probably would have gone for the donuts and a visit to God's majestry also. Loved seeing your visit to Peabea Scribbles so I could come visit.

I understand what you're saying. Since we moved to Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, I believe my husband and I have experienced a closer relationship with our Lord. We see the glorious beauty of His creation all around us every day, and admittedly find ourselves thinking of Him more often throughout our days and thanking Him more often for His mighty works. There's a special closeness we feel to Him as never before as we live in this lovely area.
ReplyDeleteI remember the struggle I had before, whether to miss church or go to work one Sunday... With my friend bloggers' prayers with mine, I felt the need was to go more to work and miss the service. The dart of guilt was overcome with the Higher Rock, the Lord's truth that we, as churches, not the building, has freedom to follow His leading. I'm glad you chose not to miss the opportunity of enjoying the Lord's creations and to enjoy the donut and apple turnover for bro.Tom. So beautiful and after all, the pics of the red rock and the white snow seem to be a reminder how His blood covers our sins as white as snow! "Donut" forget that!!! I thought ;) Now...though you listened to the podcast, the pastor now knows where you guys have been that morning you missed the church. LOL. Ahh. The freedom that comes from the Lord. If we as humans learn to delete the old program of what and what we must not do... there is no worry as we give thanks to the One Who deserves it all wherever we go, whatever we do... For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom... God bless and strengthen you both, an awesome couple with childlike faith! Inspirational!!!
ReplyDeleteOH, I just love that God meets us where we are! It is not all about sitting on a church pew, is it? His glory is SO evident in creation and nature! He has met me there many times, and He has filled my soul with His glory even more than in a church service, to be honest. What a faithful God He is, and He knows how to bless us and feed our hungry souls. Thank you for sharing the lovely pictures, my friend. God bless you and Tom with many more such encounters with Him!
ReplyDeleteI love snow...so I would have been quite content to have been there with you Sunday morning to enjoy that beautiful scenery the Creator left for you. xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute posting!
ReplyDeleteI could feel your thoughts about not wanting to go to church and then the joy of what the Lord had for you, what a praise to God!
The beauty of that snow on those red stones is awesome.
Thank you for sharing your day with us ♡
