While eating dinner at our daughter's last Saturday evening, she mentioned she missed her sister and family in San Diego. She took a few vacation days and suggested the 450 mile road trip. Our husbands felt better about it if she didn't go alone but take me along. She didn't have to ask me twice! By Sunday morning I was packed and ready to go! It took us over eight hours. We jam-packed each day with fun in the sun enjoying the ocean and our family.
Mission Beach Boardwalk stretches about 2-1/2 miles. It's lined with shops and restaurants, bicycles, skateboards, condo rentals and lovely sidewalk flowers to enjoy.
We babysat my youngest granddaughter while her big sister went to school and their parents could get away for a nice lunch by themselves. The little one is turning four. After dinner at Chuck E. Cheese, we had a party with homemade cupcakes and frosting.
My family knows my happy place is Balboa Park with it's pretty fountain, flowers, museums, arboretum, loud church bells that chime every hour and buildings with old architecture. The perfect weather energized us and we spent a few hours there.
My friend, Jason, took this one of The Museum of Man where a non-denominational chapel, St. Francis Chapel, offers old-world ambiance. It's a beautiful setting for weddings.
My short stay in San Diego with its ocean smells and family hugs was the perfect antidote for the past six months of being housebound while recuperating. I remember being asked during my first visit to physical therapy, "What is your goal?"
I answered: "To be able to walk without pain and enjoy Balboa Park and keep up with my grandchildren!"
That day has finally come and I am proud to have achieved that. Are there goals you're reaching for these days?

ReplyDeleteCongrats on reaching your GOAL!
ReplyDeleteLovely daughters and granddaughters!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of beautiful sites!
The first picture with the tricycle riders along the promenade reminds me of my own tricyle; I just haven't got a promenade nearby.
The picture with your grandkid dancing in front of the fountain is priceless! it shows she's got a great future as a balerina.
I love that photo too!
DeleteBeautiful time with your family! So wonderful that you reached your goal! Such light and life, I love that your goal was a park with a fountain! I also love the photo of your grand daughter in front of the fountain!! Living Water!! Praise God for your healing, and hope you might even be dancing with your precious grand daughters and daughters too (but not to push it if you are not ready, anyway dancing in your heart already for sure:))!! ♡♡
ReplyDeleteYour goal was the same as mine. It feel wonderful to be able to walk period for I had to use a cane and wheelchair before surgery.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you dear friend. Reaching goals can be hard some times, even gut wrenching! Or maybe I should say knee. LOL! So glad you got to go and enjoy yourself. The pictures are lovely. This post made me smile today. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you were able to go to San Diego. Seeing those granddaughters had to put spring in your step. I can't believe that the youngest is four years old already! And Sookie is getting so tall and grown up. Good medicine for you!
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful! I am so thankful God blessed you to accomplish that goal, dear friend! May He continue to bring healing to you and many more happy times with your loved ones! Sending love and hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on meeting your goals! And Praise God for the help He gave you along the way. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos of your time away!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to spend time with loved ones. Not to mention fulfilling your goal of walking in Cali! Good for you, sister. Thanks for sharing. Reminds me that I need to get over there too!
ReplyDeleteI always remind my family and myself that what's impossible to us is always possible with God Who enables! So happy to see you reached that goal. It may sound simple but when someone has pains and are limited to do or enjoy some things like that, it's like a mountain one needs to climb and kinda look like a big hurdle one can't overcome. So glad to know you conquered that mountain and be able to reach the top!!! When relationships are real, no matter the distance, your heart will always be quick to be there with them. San Diego is beautiful and Balboa Park. Those art museums, cute gardens and many restaurants. Mission Beach is a gem to beach lovers. Thank you sister Mary for always encouraging me. Back at you. God bless and always strengthen you. Stay strong with the power God gives!
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you reached your goal and there's really nothing like it when you spend it your fam. :)
