Sometimes I feel like I’m married to MacGyver; like when the ceiling fan broke and fell on me and he assured me he can fix it with a roll of duct tape.
Dust
piled high on the ceiling fan in the guest room; I climbed on my ladder. I
swiped the first blade and the whole unit fell on me! I cried “Help!” MacGyver came running and grabbed the heavy
fan. I dug in my pocket and pulled out
my petite, hot pink sequined flashlight.
He inspected the damage. “It’s a
broken bracket, but don’t worry. I can fix this.”
I
don’t want him to fix it. I want a new
fan installed immediately. The family likes this room when they visit. The fan
is right over the bed – the place where six-year old Sookie sleeps. The bed—my makeshift change station—it’s where
I change the baby’s diapers.
This
mama bear is insistent.
“Do
you trust me?” He asks. I shook my head negatively, bangs flying from
the east to the west. “I
want a new one.”
I was the first one to spot a set of car keys and drove him to Home Depot.
For ten minutes I prayed in the car while he shopped for a new bracket. The car’s side door opened and I glanced at the
box containing a brand new fan. Home Depot no longer manufactures the bracket
or our old unit!
You
should see my pretty new fan lighting up the guest room.
We
rejoiced that God cares about the details such as our little family or broken
ceiling fans. We offered praise and
thanksgiving on the drive home.
I
speak powerful scripture declarations at the start of each new day that my
friend, Debbie, taught me. These are my
favorites:
I have a covenant with God
and by the blood of Jesus I release my divine protection and divine
provision. (Hebrews 8:6)
My angels are carrying out
the Word of God on my behalf (Psalm 103:20)
Any adversity, attack,
accidents and tragedies that were headed my way are diverted right now in
Jesus’ Name. (Psalm 91)
I
watched our grandchildren play in the guest room and as I stood in the doorway,
I remembered that an umbrella of divine protection hovers over them.
For the record, I am grateful to have a man who can fix things and I don’t take that for granted. Have you ever heard of a ceiling fan falling down from the ceiling?
Oh, my! I have never heard of a ceiling fan falling from the ceiling! I am renting an apartment in a basement of a house, people whom I know, and the lady homeowner's husband can do just about anything from fixing his own car to plumbing to electricity. He is very handy and it is so rare that they need to call in someone to take care of things in the house. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Linda!
DeleteThese are the kind of people that should be in business for sure! Don't you love handymen?
Thanks for visiting!
you are blessed.
ReplyDeleteYes, Dear Heart, I am! Love ya,
DeleteMary
Your mention of a hot pink sequined flashlight cracked me up, Mary!
ReplyDeleteLove how you sprinkle smiles throughout what could have been a far more somber post.
Love how He loves us!
I've got to find some way to be cute, Myra, since I'm not a fan of chocolate, perfume or much jewelry! Wow, sounds like I'm a loser. (But I'm not-----haha.)
DeleteHi Mary! So glad everything turned out ok. Your grandbabies are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteBlessings on you and your dear family my friend xoxoxo
All my heart,
Deborah
Deborah, I love it when you drop by!
DeleteWishing you an awesome day!
Glad there were not replacement brackets available :) I would have been like you, wanting a new fan especially since it was in an area with lots of precious people being in it at times.
ReplyDeletebetty
Hi, Betty:
DeleteOh, good -- we both have protective mommy hearts!
Love,
Mary
I am glad that God answered your prayer and I know He does! He understands how you feel about the old fan over your Sookie's bed.
ReplyDeleteYes, He does, Nancy! Makes one wonder about all the protection He provides that I'm clueless about!
DeleteBlessings to you today!
Mary
Oh, my! Praise the dear Lord for watching out for you...and those sweet babies! He is SO faithful and so worthy of our praise!! Much love to you, dear friend. :)
ReplyDeletePraising Him with you, Cheryl, for His divine protection. Thank you for visiting me!
DeleteGod wanted you to have a new ceiling fan that is for sure. I am thankful you were not hurt when the fan fell on you and that your hubby was close by to rescue you. I could envision you shaking your head NO and your bangs flying this way and that. Thanks for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.
ReplyDeleteJust a red bruise on my arm, that's all. The angels must have caught it and held it in place and held me on that ladder! Bless you!
DeleteHi Mary! First of all, I LOVE your header with the blog name on it. Is it new? (Maybe I just haven't noticed...)
ReplyDeleteI would have reacted exactly as you did. Oh Lord, could you imagine having something happen with guests in there? Especially children? I am so happy that the bracket is no longer used, and that God heard your prayer for safety. He loves all His children, especially the little ones! I hope you enjoy this lovely fan for years to come.
And no. I've never heard of a fan falling! Thank goodness you weren't hurt!
In thanksgiving,
Ceil
The header is Balboa Park, Ceil, my happy place. We could have an awesome cup of coffee in that park. Wouldn't that be fun? I would love to talk to you in person again. Especially there!
DeleteOK, I just have to know - did you gloat (just a little bit) when your hubby came out with a new fan??? If not, you're a better woman than I would have been! HA!
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I've heard of a falling ceiling fan, but there have been plenty of *fixes* that I have witnessed. My hubby is a handy guy, too. Fortunately, he usually knows when something is beyond his ability, and it's time to call an expert.
Wish I could learn that in my own life. Learning that life is beyond my ability to fix, and I need to call in The Expert (Jesus!)
GOD BLESS!
Hi, Sharon!
DeleteI was glad God got a hold of Him while I waited in the car. I kept telling him how wise he was to purchase a new unit. The poor man looked so humble, this good wife didn't want to botch things up!!! Remember, he still had to install it before they arrived!
What a great take on this story! Love your comment.
As usual, you get lots of people sharing their thoughts and their info into you. That's a blessing. AND you are a blessing, anyhow. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are a blessing too!
DeleteLove,
Mary
I like your husband's style! But I know that determined look on a wife's face that means the options are coming to an end...
ReplyDeleteBeing thankful for the little things in life brings a peace and joy that big ticket items can't fulfill for more than a season.
Those pictures of your grandkids are awesome! What a blessing...
You make me feel normal! It is important to be thankful for the little stuff as well as the big, I agree.
DeleteGod's blessings, brother,
Mary
Hello my friend, I am so glad that you weren't seriously hurt when the fan fell on you. Oh my goodness! But I can see you whipping out your pink flashlight and shaking your head no!
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful that the Lord saw to it that you needed a new fan. You are a good wife to praise your husband for his decision to get a new fan, even if it was due to the fact that they no longer make that bracket.
Love you!
Dianna, I had you on my mind yesterday and here you are!
DeleteLove you,
Mary
I don't doubt that that could happen! I live with a man who can fix anything and like you, sometimes I must demand we don't fix it but get something new! On mother's day he installed a new battery in my car even when the old was recharged because he saw that panic on my face. :)
ReplyDeleteHa,ha you sound like me. Sometimes it's hard to trust them! Oh, Lord help us!
DeleteWhat can I say? Everything happens for a reason. And always for our good. ;)
ReplyDeleteMay God pour out His favor and blessing out on you today, Lux.
DeleteJust wanted to come back and say GOOD FOR YOU for going to that writers meeting! You will so enjoy it! And yes, submit submit! That's how I started. I submitted everywhere I could with my nonfiction first.
ReplyDeleteI went ahead and joined the delaration. Amen!
ReplyDeleteThank God for His divine protection.
Your grandkids are so adorable.
Sweet Blessings to you Mary
I love declaration prayers, Ifeoma! Strong faith in saying what God says over my circumstances and family is powerful!
DeleteAW, i got worried when that fan fell right at you! Thank God that you' re ok, also, atleast you have now a new one right?
ReplyDeleteSo glad to have caused a little suspense in your day, Steve! Thank you for caring about me!
DeleteI love the Macgyver reference! You should always trust Macgyver, except when it comes to duct taping ceiling fans:) So glad you weren't hurt.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Bernadine! We are respectful women but not stupid. LOL.
