Write On!

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.”   Erma Bombeck

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” -- Maya Angelou

I’ve been thinking about this for some time.   I need to pause and appreciate what my fellow bloggers do.
Why write?  Some write to instruct us how to cook the best recipe, or re-arrange the furniture for maximum eye appeal.  Some bloggers help us get well with natural remedies.  Some write “how to” tips.  Some bloggers share their faith and inspire us to soar spiritually.  On and on, the variety goes.

Just last summer my husband decided to get his extensive dental work done in Mexico.  Bloggers were my first resource for research and recommendations.  It turned out well.

I remember back when my daughter and I were especially low.  She lived in another state and I visited often to cheer her up and help with her little one.  She was not yet established in a church body and felt isolated in her pain.  God heard our plea for help and loving believers entered our lives via Blogger and Wordpress.  Their prayers and uplifting words of compassion reached into the crevices of our broken spirits helping us put the pieces back together.  Some experienced similar trials and their blog posts of God’s grace and deliverance gave us hope.

I think blogging should be added to the biblical list of spiritual gifts, especially when I read 2 Corinthians 1:4:
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Pile of Smiles, my own life’s compilation of events, is forging ahead in 2015 with hopes that any passerby or long-time friend will visit and feel refreshed.  I need to write.  It clarifies everything for me.  It’s my corner where creativity and expression meet.  Also, I cherish the friends I’ve made over the years in this venue and want them to know that. And I look forward to developing new ones.

Thank you, blogging friends, for your compassion, your willingness to help, your delightful humor and your creativity through the gift of writing.  I’m cheering you on this year; you are bright spots in my life.

  2. I think you've perfectly captured that dual sense of compulsion and desire that sums up a writer's heart. I know that without writing, my life would much more difficult to negotiate. Writing is how I process what I'm experiencing.

Mary, having said that, I so appreciate your words on your blog. My life is brightened by you, and Blog Land is lucky to have your presence!

Looking forward to walking our journeys in 2015. May we continue to uphold and encourage each other!

    GOD BLESS!

  5. Wow, Mary. I'm not sure why, but this really struck a cord in my heart and soul and moved me deeply.

I so appreciate that you do write, and by goodness you write from the heart. There is nothing sweeter and purer, even in our fallenness.

You've been a blessing. I know some of your loved ones struggles and I've seen the hand of our Father answer your and our prayers…

Our small part might be much larger than we could ever suspect. Keep up the good work and the good Word, sister.

Amen! I am so encouraged in the Lord through many of our blogging friends. I definitely believe God can and does use this medium (just like any other) for his glory if we allow him to. I'm glad you're still writing, Mary. I need to also. There are things in us that have to get out, one way or another. :)

  7. Hi Mary! What a lovely affirmation of blogging! You have benefitted from your blog friends in so many ways, I can see why you love them so much.
I can really relate to the writing thing. I enjoy writing too, and when I'm away from it for a while, I do get a bit 'itchy' to get back to it. I think thats a sign of God's gentle nudges.
Keep writing! Keep encouraging and being encouraged. It is what you have been called to do.
    Blessings,
    Ceil

Because He Lives, I Can Move

I’m currently in one of those places where you lay out all the options and then you make the best decision. It seems, however, like none of the choices are fair or attractive. I know God will help me in my situation because I desire His guidance. I’m clinging to His Word which promises that ALL things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. I heard a great teaching this week about seeking God’s will and all the freedom that surrender brings. We can know that God is bringing about a victory if we trust Him with each and every decision. The speaker illustrated his point with a famous painting. The painting depicts a look of despair on the chess player’s face. He’s playing Satan and his soul is at stake. It looks like Satan is winning. Checkmate! When Paul Morphy saw this painting back in the 1800’s, he set up a chess board and aligned the pieces to reflect the painting. Being a world champion, he studied the board. His conclusi

Humor for the Bride and Groom

A young couple decided to wed.  As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive.  Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice.   "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage."  His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?"   "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancé will be put off by them."  "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."   Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom."  Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful."  "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has

A Veteran's Story

I noticed Bill sitting in our local park where I walk.   He glanced my way just as I finished the last exercise walk song on my playlist.   He shouted and pointed to my car:   “Hey, is that your car with the Nam front license plate?   I stepped closer into the veranda where Bill sat on a picnic bench.   I noticed his Vietnam Vet cap and instantly I knew why I walked there that day.   The Marine Vet served during the 1960’s, the same time span as my husband.   Bill talked a lot about the war evoking my emotions from laughter to tears.   My South Vietnam front plate often prompts a conversation with a stranger and I’ve learned a deep respect for it over the years.   It is my way of listening to a veteran.   I enjoyed listening to Bill.   He made me laugh in spots but he made me cry as well.   Like when he talked about the sandwich lady.   “Do you ever eat at the sandwich shop in the gas station down the street?”   I replied that I’ve order coffee once in that place with a turke
