Thankful Thursday ~ Protection

My car is running good again, but this wasn’t the case during the holidays.  God had His hand on me because my engine could have blown up if the gasoline I smelled would have overflowed to electrical parts.

We returned home a week before Christmas and my vehicle drove nicely during those 900 miles.  A few days later, I met with one of my besties for a long holiday lunch in Sedona and that’s when I noticed the smell of gas.  But then it went away.  I remembered that my husband put a fuel injector cleaner in my engine; maybe the smell was linked to that.  The next day he smelled it too and we knew we had a problem.  The mechanic had to replace my fuel pressure regulator.

I make a declaration of faith every morning taken from Psalm 91.  It’s like insurance not only for me but for my family:

I am dwelling in the secret place of the Most High with (names of family)!
We’re abiding under the shadow of the Almighty!
He is our fortress!
He is our refuge!
In God do we trust!
He covers us with His feathers!
We will not live in fear!
The wicked will get their reward!
His angels are watching over us and keeping us in all our ways because we know His way!
He is delivering us from trouble!
He is our salvation.

This Thankful Thursday, I’m publicly thanking God for protecting me.  I’m grateful this problem did not occur during our holiday travels, much of which is long, dry desert highway. I am going to keep dwelling in the secret place!

  1. This morning I'm thankful for His hand covering you-how very scary!
We never seem to know just how much He protects us or how many angels He has guarding us. I too am so very thankful.

  5. Amen. When the Lord had me witnessed an unseen battle from a family member, Psalm 91 was my prayer He gave me to find peace and joy despite what occurred. And protection! I pray it loud also sister using my family's and friends' names. What better way than to speak the Word that is alive, a double-edged sWord He gave us to use as our weapon. I'm glad you're okay and I know you'll always be because He surrounds us. Take care sister Mary.Hapoy New Year and love and blessings to you!

  7. That is one of my all time favorite scriptures Mary. We may never know just how many times God is protecting us and we don't even know it. I'm glad to see you back, I know you had a wonderful Christmas!

  8. That could have been so awful, Mary. No, I'm not going to let my mind go there.

You know, a similar thing once happened to me ... I was with a "Mr. Wrong" at the time, so my complaints about smelling gas weren't taken very seriously. Only when I insisted he raise the hood and he saw liquid spitting up when I depressed the gas pedal did he take me seriously. (Since I was a smoker at the time, I realize how very lucky I was.)

God is good, all of the time!

    Hugs,
    Myra

  10. HI Mary! Oh my goodness, how God watched over you! I am so glad that your car problem got fixed, and that you will be ok.
I just love the fact that you pray over yourself and your family every morning. And what a great Psalm to use. You are inspiring me to do that too. Thank you!
And I can't help but say that I'd love to have lunch in Sedona. It's so darn pretty there!
    Have a good Tuesday!

Because He Lives, I Can Move

I’m currently in one of those places where you lay out all the options and then you make the best decision. It seems, however, like none of the choices are fair or attractive. I know God will help me in my situation because I desire His guidance. I’m clinging to His Word which promises that ALL things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. I heard a great teaching this week about seeking God’s will and all the freedom that surrender brings. We can know that God is bringing about a victory if we trust Him with each and every decision. The speaker illustrated his point with a famous painting. The painting depicts a look of despair on the chess player’s face. He’s playing Satan and his soul is at stake. It looks like Satan is winning. Checkmate! When Paul Morphy saw this painting back in the 1800’s, he set up a chess board and aligned the pieces to reflect the painting. Being a world champion, he studied the board. His conclusi

Humor for the Bride and Groom

A young couple decided to wed.  As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive.  Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice.   "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage."  His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?"   "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancé will be put off by them."  "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."   Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom."  Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful."  "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has

A Veteran's Story

I noticed Bill sitting in our local park where I walk.   He glanced my way just as I finished the last exercise walk song on my playlist.   He shouted and pointed to my car:   “Hey, is that your car with the Nam front license plate?   I stepped closer into the veranda where Bill sat on a picnic bench.   I noticed his Vietnam Vet cap and instantly I knew why I walked there that day.   The Marine Vet served during the 1960’s, the same time span as my husband.   Bill talked a lot about the war evoking my emotions from laughter to tears.   My South Vietnam front plate often prompts a conversation with a stranger and I’ve learned a deep respect for it over the years.   It is my way of listening to a veteran.   I enjoyed listening to Bill.   He made me laugh in spots but he made me cry as well.   Like when he talked about the sandwich lady.   “Do you ever eat at the sandwich shop in the gas station down the street?”   I replied that I’ve order coffee once in that place with a turke
