Show Me Where to Walk

Show Me Where to Walk, Lord,

For My Prayer is Sincere. Ps. 143:8

Recently I was asked: “What is it you want a double portion of from God?” My answer immediately rolled off my tongue. “I need to develop a double portion of hearing His voice!” Confidence builds when you hear Him and trust Him for direction. An example of this was when I planned my itinerary to fly back home to Chicago for a few weeks to see my family there.
I was at my desk flipping back and forth over all the flights and trying to decide how long of a visit I should plan. Confused, I quietly sat and prayed for the Lord to show me. I was determined to schedule my flights on the days the Lord wanted me to travel! One of my brothers offered to pick me up at O’Hare and since he is off on Tuesday it made sense to choose that day, but it didn't seem right. Wednesday was the day I should fly in and also fly out and I chose to stay two weeks.

Many weeks later I arrived at O’Hare and learned that a vicious storm hit the evening before, a Tuesday, and over 180 flights were delayed! But on the Wednesday evening that I flew in, my brother just got off of work about 20 minutes from the airport. It was so easy!
After my two-week stay, I boarded my flight home learning that it was a good thing I was traveling on Wednesday because the day before a major dust storm hit Phoenix and the airport was incapacitated.

I’m convinced that no man can know what’s ahead and counsel me like Jesus. That’s why I love to sit in His powerful presence. He cares more than a best friend! Who wouldn’t want a double portion of hearing Him?

I wonder what you want a double portion of?

  3. What an encouraging post....Yes, we should always stop and ask and listen to what He has to say.....So much pain would be avoided if we did as you did.....

Yes, I need a double portion of hearing Him as well....

    Hugs and blessings,

  5. Coincidence? I'm thinking NOT.

I think I'd appreciate having a double portion of that Peace (within) which surpasses all understanding. Not to be greedy (LOL), but might I also have more "Acceptance" as dessert?

  8. You know, Mary, I doubt there's anything more vital to the body today than the ability to hear God's voice. There are soooooo many voices out them; some of them good, some not-so-good, and others just downright wrong.

I'll join Carrie in asking for a triple portion of the same ...

  9. That's what I want too sister! We are given two ears and most of the time, it's the one mouth that does a lot of work...Geez...

He is awesome when we commit all our ways to Him, nothing goes wrong. That is a great testimony itself and I will also pray for keen eyes, not the kind that see the visible, but the kind that see the things of God. God bless you and thank you for your prayers. This week, I am seeking "counsel" regarding the issues at work. But I'm grateful we always have the Best Advocate. Glory be to God! Love to you sister.

  10. What an inspiring post, Mary! Wow, God directed and guarded your steps so faithfully, didn't He?!

What do I need a double portion of right now? Oh, there are so many things. I guess, though, that I would pick a double portion of His presence. I know He's always there, and that He'll never leave me. But, I just need a double portion of that closeness that speaks to the heart...

Somehow I know that He'll show me something soon like He always has in the past - a precious "Hello" that can only come from Him.

    GOD BLESS!

  11. It says a lot that when you were asked the question, that was the answer that just rolled off of you tongue. While I agree that definitely this is the answer of answers, I would have stumbled around, thinking of many other things before landing on what is best... Thank you for sharing your story.

    Blessings, Debbie

  14. What a beautiful gift to ask a double portion of. I need to be careful to listen to God. I have to wonder what I could have avoided if I was listening more closely.

  15. Hi Mary -

    I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.
Never had I thought of a double portion of hearing our Lord. Great desire!

This strongly stirred my soul juices, "I’m convinced that no man can know what’s ahead and counsel me like Jesus. That’s why I love to sit in His powerful presence. He cares more than a best friend! Who wouldn’t want a double portion of hearing Him?"

Also, I was much moved by how our Lord scheduled your travel perfectly to avoid... Glory to His loving and awesome name!

Because He Lives, I Can Move

I’m currently in one of those places where you lay out all the options and then you make the best decision. It seems, however, like none of the choices are fair or attractive. I know God will help me in my situation because I desire His guidance. I’m clinging to His Word which promises that ALL things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. I heard a great teaching this week about seeking God’s will and all the freedom that surrender brings. We can know that God is bringing about a victory if we trust Him with each and every decision. The speaker illustrated his point with a famous painting. The painting depicts a look of despair on the chess player’s face. He’s playing Satan and his soul is at stake. It looks like Satan is winning. Checkmate! When Paul Morphy saw this painting back in the 1800’s, he set up a chess board and aligned the pieces to reflect the painting. Being a world champion, he studied the board. His conclusi

Humor for the Bride and Groom

A young couple decided to wed.  As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive.  Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice.   "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage."  His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?"   "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancé will be put off by them."  "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."   Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom."  Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful."  "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has

A Veteran's Story

I noticed Bill sitting in our local park where I walk.   He glanced my way just as I finished the last exercise walk song on my playlist.   He shouted and pointed to my car:   “Hey, is that your car with the Nam front license plate?   I stepped closer into the veranda where Bill sat on a picnic bench.   I noticed his Vietnam Vet cap and instantly I knew why I walked there that day.   The Marine Vet served during the 1960’s, the same time span as my husband.   Bill talked a lot about the war evoking my emotions from laughter to tears.   My South Vietnam front plate often prompts a conversation with a stranger and I’ve learned a deep respect for it over the years.   It is my way of listening to a veteran.   I enjoyed listening to Bill.   He made me laugh in spots but he made me cry as well.   Like when he talked about the sandwich lady.   “Do you ever eat at the sandwich shop in the gas station down the street?”   I replied that I’ve order coffee once in that place with a turke
