Spiritual First Aid

Do you find it hard to forgive sometimes, especially when someone hurts you or worse yet, hurts one of your kids? Forgiveness is a topic I am working through in my spiritual life right now and I write about it at Lisa Shaw's link, Ladies on a Mission. I hope you will stop by and visit me there today. Click here. Praise Jesus! He is the Balm, the spiritual first aid needed for every wound.

  5. I came over from Lisa's blog where I read what you have written about forgiveness.

It really is a timely message for me, for it is something I have been struggling with these past three months or so.

Thank you for what you have written.

    Beautiful quote, and beautiful story.

I pray that God will show me the way I am asking for.

    Love
    Lidj

  6. Oh Mary ... your personal testimony has touched me once again! How unfortunate that Jake was unable to witness your overtures.
I need to hold onto your last line and rejoice in my own changes!

  7. I read the other post. It is hard to forgive, especially when one's child has been hurt.
I've seen this, and lived it. I am thankful for God's grace and His preventing me from becoming bitter and angry. Another manifestation of His grace.

  10. Forgiveness can be really hard. I have Romans 14 underlined 3 times in my Bible. It is my go to chapter to help me when I struggle with forgiveness. Paul talks about how others are God's servants and not ours, how they are responsible to Him and not us. It always helps me to read this chapter. And of course Proverbs 3:5 - lean not on your own understanding. Sometimes it's hard to understand the whys when someone hurts us, and it always helps me to surrender to trying to figure any of it out, and just trust and lean on God instead of my own understanding.

Spiritual Sundays ~ Flamboyant Love

I was shopping for a birthday card during my lunch hour last week when I overheard an elderly woman in the card aisle talking to her niece, a woman about my age. Here is what she said: “ I threw out all my cards. They never meant those words anyway .” Lots of laughter followed. How sad I thought to be unable to receive the love sent to her in the sentiments of a card. This incident got me thinking about the love of God and resolving to embrace it when it is offered to me. It doesn’t matter if I think I’m worthy of such extravagant love; He thinks so! In contrast, just a day later I received one of those gorgeous hand-crafted cards in the mail from my friend, Kay, who loves paper crafting. It was so pretty and love and joy just oozed out of it when I opened it. This is a sample of her designs at Creativity is Good. Kay wrote a beautiful note to me in the card reminding me of God’s tender love for me. She ended her thoughts with “The God of the universe loves us more than we can ever f...

Holiday Movie Comes to Life

It’s uncanny when a new holiday movie comes out and resembles your personal life.   I came clean to my husband on that drive to the Harkins in Sedona confessing that the movie got bad ratings.   It isn’t the type of movie that he would choose to see in the first place.   Rotten Tomatoes gave it one star.   My prince charming replied:   “ Let’s see what we think of it and rate it ourselves.”   Yes!   High five to his palm! It started out as a fun afternoon date.   It would have been perfect if the lady directly in front of me didn’t have on super-strength perfume.   Smells can be troublesome when you’re prone to headaches.   I stuck my head in a big bucket of buttered popcorn; you know-- to alleviate her fragrance, because popcorn smell is less offensive.   What else is a girl like me to do? We named the genre “drama with comedy.”   Cast of characters acted like the typical family scene at Christmas tim...

Lunch With the Girls on Gurley Street

While vacuuming a few days ago, I had a conversation with myself wondering if I should delete my blog. It was just a stray thought that came into my head while I was on a self pity trip. When life gets hard, I don’t always feel like rejoicing and with a blog dedicated to smiling in life, well it is just too much pressure! Then something wonderful happened. I am smiling again and can’t wait to write about it! Two precious sisters-in-Christ, amazing Arizona bloggers from the valley, drove up north and offered mega doses of encouragement. Today I would like to feature the wonderful afternoon I spent in Prescott with Debbie from Heart Choices and Kathleen from Sassy Granny. Debbie and I met last year at a blogger luncheon, so I knew this charming lady would have us laughing with her friendly ease. She is beautiful inside and out and oh, what a heart of love this gal has! It was such a blessing to meet Kathleen in person after following her blog this past year. I was su...
