I'm Counting it Joy, Buddy!

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4

The further I continue in my journey of faith, I understand why I can count it all joy in my trials. It’s because the end result produces a blessing. I usually don’t feel victorious in the trial; I have to believe in faith a blessing is coming. It takes patience, less of me and my desires and more of God’s spirit to work out the “less” of me!

Last winter I was rubbed the wrong way at work with a co-worker, Buddy. My client and I had developed that bond of trust and I knew he was ready to close the sale. The house I was selling was not a set up model at our store. He had to go to our sister store in Phoenix and view it there and Buddy aggressively stole my customer. Even when the client wrote me emails that he would rather purchase it from me, Buddy would not back down. My boss was caught in the middle and being a peacemaker, offered me a partial commission. I accepted, resting in the joy of my salvation. I forgave Buddy and let the Lord fight my battle. Yesterday I learned that Buddy was fired. I am not joyful about that, but I am joyful that I am still standing. I am joyful that I’m in a good place with God and with my boss. I have my joy and my integrity. God’s spirit produced patience, not ugliness.

  2. Mary, why am I not surprised? You are a kind woman of God. I understand when you say you're not happy that Buddy got fired. But you left it up to the Lord and didn't insist on what was rightfully yours. In the end, the truth came out. But sometimes it doesn't always work that way and it seems like they get away with stuff. I always try to remember that God sees it all and we don't have to worry about getting what's due us.

    Love and blessings to you,
    Debbie

  3. It's not easy sometimes to put off the anger or respond with love but He promised us He will take care of those injustices for us. It's sad that Buddy was fired.

That's one thing I love with the Lord, how much compassion He had shown us and wanted us to have. That even if our enemies lose, we must not rejoice. But rather "be joyful" only in Him! It's Him being our All in All that truly makes our hearts joyful no matter what trial we're in. Glory to God! I'm in pain still but I give it to Him. Knowing He will heal me in His perfect time. I choose to remain joyful. Knowing I don't have anything to lose but I have so much I had gained instead to know His love and mercy. Love to you sister. Joy=smiles....

  11. Your words are so true. I think God wants us to love others and let go of resentment and hurt and annoyances and just love, because he knows it gives us peace and joy when we do this, and that is good and healthy for us. He always wants the best for us!

I added your blog to my side bar under inspirational blogs!!

Book Review of Biblical Minimalism and Give Away

What does minimizing look like?  To the empty nester it may mean downsizing real estate.  To the co-dependent, it may mean pitching some toxic friendships they tend to collect.  I thought I had a handle on Biblical minimalism, but I wasn’t even close.  Biblical minimalism is much more than cleaning out a drawer and discarding unwanted things into a box to take to the thrift store. In her book, Biblical Minimalism, Cheryl E. Smith defines Biblical minimalism as “a complete, whole person release of anything unlike Jesus, a letting go of everything that hinders us from following Him wholeheartedly and single- mindedly , and a relinquishing of all that brings us under bondage to this earthly, very temporary life.” The author gives us a visual of a whole pie that is divided into eight slices.  Each slice describes our lives with areas to analyze to see if pruning or adjustment is needed.  I won’t name them all, but one example is the “emotional ...

Mama's Lipstick

I always wished I could do things with my mom like shop in the mall, share makeup secrets or go to the movies and watch romantic comedies.  My wish never materialized.     My mama behaved like a tomboy.   She loved baseball and pitched with a strong right arm.   She could care less about the latest fashion or the latest movies featured on the big screen.   She never polished her fingernails.    One day after elementary school, I walked into the house to find my mom all dolled up in front of the bathroom mirror, foundation crème, powder, eyebrow pencil and rouge all over the counter sink.  “Who are you?” I asked, thrilled to see my mama putting on the Ritz.  Makeup in place and blotted, she immediately took it off.  “I don’t like the way it feels,” she exclaimed. She retired in Arizona and protected her dry lips with a light rose lipstick, the color of natural lips, a step above ChapStick.  She wore it a few tim...

Abba's Lap

I noticed a behavior pattern in little Amy, twenty months old, that I want to imitate.  She moves fast engaging in one toddler activity after another spinning like a whirlwind from one room to another.  Yet, she pauses,  intermittently , long enough to get refreshed.   I want to be like this grandchild of mine because she knows where to go and how to get comforted. Amy moves at record speed, putting more miles on a pedometer in one hour than my accumulated weekly workouts at the gym.  She can build a skyscraper so tall, I wonder why those bright pink Lego’s don’t topple to the ground as she continues to stack just one more piece on top. I learned never to leave the room to get another cup of coffee.  Once, when I returned, I found her climbing past the couch with hands and feet reaching for the living room drapes. She has a consistent habit that I admire.  In the midst of her activities, as she moves robustly from one play...
