Our Christmas Box

I wondered how we would feel about a Christmas Eve this year with emphasis on other’s pain and needs instead of a lot of gift giving among ourselves. Let me tell you, it really felt like Christmas!

We attended the Christmas Eve service at church and came home to a simple, but elegant supper. We collected about fifty prayer requests from family, friends and blogging buddies. I’m proud of my family’s attitude that night and their compassion to touch heaven with their prayerful hearts as we opened the beautiful gold box under the tree and read each prayer request. We began with a great a verse from Job 5:9. “He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.” We prayed for healing for people struggling with cancer and other diseases. Some needed a financial miracle. Several needed prodigals to return home, family members’ salvation, on and on the needs were spoken. Our hearts were full and tears fell from our eyes. One of the kids reminded us that “where two or more are gathered, Jesus is in our midst.”

God gave us a gift of faith that night and we received it believing He can do above and beyond anything that we can imagine. My daughter felt the Lord remind her as we prayed that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

We expect to hear praises too. Already, we’ve seen the Lord’s hand in my sister’s health. She was so sick with a virus all week, she couldn’t celebrate the holidays. But God touched her mightily and she was up on Christmas Day!

One of my daughter’s co-workers requested that we pray for her for a relationship with the Lord. My daughter gave her a booklet, highlighting it with scriptures and the woman has found new life in Christ. She's been studying and couldn’t wait to share her notes and highlights because Jesus is real and speaks in His Word.

The only thing that flopped that night was my angel food cake! Hey, it didn’t look all that appetizing, but we were on such a high, we didn’t care. We put on a pot of coffee, served the cake with Dreyer’s ice cream and partied!

Spiritual Sundays is hosted by Ginger and Charlotte.

  3. My Precious, Precious Friend,

I love seeing pictures of your family. What a blessed Christmas time for all of you and for those of us who all you and your beautiful family have kept in prayer. I feel honored to know you dear sister, I truly do. When God created you, He surely created a masterpiece and I thank Him for you my friend, for your dear family. You have shown me truly what Christmas is all about. I got a little lost within the last week, but I'm finding my way back onto the path again. Your prayers are surely being felt by me.

Thank you Father for such a kind, loving, compassionate woman of God. Mary...a name, face and loving human being that we have all come to know and love so much through her smiling face, heart on fire for her love for You and all mankind, for her compassionate heart, one filled with an absolute gift of intercession, praying for others...A true warrior for the souls that she prays for on this earth. Oh what an absolute treasured gift she is to all of us, but to You Father she absolutely shines brightly from this earth all the way up to the heavens.

Thank you Father for my sweet friend, my sister, my intercessor, my prayer warrior. I ask that you bless her with an over abundance of joy, peace, love, grace, prosperity and so much more. I ask that her family be blessed in all of those ways and so much more in the days to come. May your heavenly presence be felt so strongly around them at all times and may your hand of divine intervention be upon them always in Jesus precious name I pray. Amen.

I love you so much dear friend.

    Big Hugs & Prayers,
    Alleluiabelle

  13. "Thank you" is not enough to let you know how much your prayers, your friendship and being a sister in Christ means to me! Thank you to your family as well for lifting up our requests. You weren't late when I requested prayers before I floated to another facility. I felt your prayers way ahead even before I made that request. :)
What happened then? The Lord did answer them! Glory to God!!!

A cake is still a cake no matter what shape. I would have done the same knowing that it's the taste that matters. "Angel" food cake...the perfect dessert for you and your family who are all angels to us, hungry for your prayer intercession! Lovely photos of your family. Your Susanna had grown so much since the last time you posted a pic! May God bless you and your whole family abundantly. I'm keeping you in my prayers, too...Love to you.

  14. I am so glad that you had such a wonderful Christmas Eve together. Your cake looks like some of mine have turned out too. LOL I baked a cake 45 minutes past the time it was supposed to bake for Christmas Eve. Overbaked was a slight understatement. :) But a pot of coffee was a great solution for us too. It helps make anything sweet taste even better. Loved all of your pictures! thanks for sharing them!

  15. Of the richness of Christmas, it sounds like you were blessed mightily! How fun to see your girls, and the wee one.

I know what a rugged year this has been, friend. I pray 2010 is the gateway to great joy, great peace. And maybe; just maybe ... we'll get to do that lunch too!

    Blessings,
    Kathleen

Because He Lives, I Can Move

I’m currently in one of those places where you lay out all the options and then you make the best decision. It seems, however, like none of the choices are fair or attractive. I know God will help me in my situation because I desire His guidance. I’m clinging to His Word which promises that ALL things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. I heard a great teaching this week about seeking God’s will and all the freedom that surrender brings. We can know that God is bringing about a victory if we trust Him with each and every decision. The speaker illustrated his point with a famous painting. The painting depicts a look of despair on the chess player’s face. He’s playing Satan and his soul is at stake. It looks like Satan is winning. Checkmate! When Paul Morphy saw this painting back in the 1800’s, he set up a chess board and aligned the pieces to reflect the painting. Being a world champion, he studied the board. His conclusi

Humor for the Bride and Groom

A young couple decided to wed.  As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive.  Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice.   "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage."  His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?"   "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancĂ© will be put off by them."  "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."   Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom."  Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful."  "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has

A Veteran's Story

I noticed Bill sitting in our local park where I walk.   He glanced my way just as I finished the last exercise walk song on my playlist.   He shouted and pointed to my car:   “Hey, is that your car with the Nam front license plate?   I stepped closer into the veranda where Bill sat on a picnic bench.   I noticed his Vietnam Vet cap and instantly I knew why I walked there that day.   The Marine Vet served during the 1960’s, the same time span as my husband.   Bill talked a lot about the war evoking my emotions from laughter to tears.   My South Vietnam front plate often prompts a conversation with a stranger and I’ve learned a deep respect for it over the years.   It is my way of listening to a veteran.   I enjoyed listening to Bill.   He made me laugh in spots but he made me cry as well.   Like when he talked about the sandwich lady.   “Do you ever eat at the sandwich shop in the gas station down the street?”   I replied that I’ve order coffee once in that place with a turke
