Right On Target

As a Christian, it’s easy to look around and see spiritual significance in everything we do!

Here is a photo of my target. I went shooting in the desert with my DH a few days ago. I missed the bull’s eye a time or two! On the drive home, I thought of how target shooting is significant to the definition of sin: missing the mark.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8,9

We all miss the mark. I’m so grateful for a savior. He never gives up on me. I stumbled across an old journal entry dating back to January. I wrote about some goals I hoped that I would accomplish this year. I forgot I journaled this, but Jesus didn’t! I wrote that I wanted to lose 15 lbs. I need self control. I lost 10 and have 5 more to go; will I make it by the end of the year? I think so.

I also wrote about some fears that I wanted to overcome such as gaining confidence in traveling alone. That sure happened! Never did I think I would be traveling alone so much like I have had to do this past year.

What is the significance of all this? Looking back I see His faithfulness. Jesus is my “significant other”, of course! What a savior. To trust Him in all things, now that’s for what I’m aiming.

  1. Oh Mary you are growing each day. Traveling alone and I just know you'll lose the last five pounds. I've missed you online lately but know you've had much going on.

    Sending you hugs,

  2. At first, I panicked! I thought great new look! Oh no! Where's her picture[header]....ohh....okay...she didn't remove it. She just moved it to her side bar! Whewww...

Sister, that's neat you can shoot! My hubby wanted to teach me, I always holler "no!". I love your analogy between the target and sins. And yes, Amen to the Savior Who is always faithful and never gives up on us!

That's okay if you missed that target...But not spiritually...With Jesus as your "front and rear sights" aligned, there is no missing the mark!!!God bless you sister...Your post blessed me tonight more than you'll ever know...Good night! Love to you!

  3. There are many lessons:

Be careful what you pray for..you just might get it.

Don't make Mary mad, she is a pretty good shot..well, at least good enough to kill or hurt you.

Great post...I just had to tease a bit. I Love you! You have become a treasured friend and as you know, I miss the mark quite a bit.

    Love, hugs, and prayers, andrea

  4. I know the butterflies that fly along with you when you fly alone. You just want them in the sky and not in your stomach. The more you do it, the more coping skills you develop. I know: I have flown alone to 5 countries and 6 states in the last 3 months and in the next couple of weeks, I will be going to 5 more states -- alone. Good for you that you are doing it. You are not alone, though. God is with you. God has helped me so many times on my trips, sometimes in the most startling ways.

  7. This is a wonderful post in how well you used the Target. Here is hoping that I miss the center mark if it pertains to sin in my life, I don't even want to hit the paper at this point.

Praying that all the goals that you have established with be blessed with God's almighty hand.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  8. Love the new look! It must go hand-in-hand with the new you, the one made new by His incredible crafting!

Your parable with the target is so appropriate. About the time I begin patting myself on the back for something, I take a gander at my accuracy and find that I'm often way off the mark!

    Blessings,
    Kathleen

  9. What a great post and I LOVE your new header!
I have often been astounded when looking back at old journal lists. It's exactly as you say - the Lord shepherds us and remembers our plans. (BIG HUG!)

We Have This Day

A friend noticed Cowboy Church off of Dry Creek Road in West Sedona yesterday morning as he drove past and told me the parking lot was bulging with cars from everywhere.  "Something big was going on!  He said." "Yes I replied; I was there and I want to tell you all about what happened." I glanced over the highly attended sanctuary as the first speaker approached to speak.  He introduced himself as a pastor from the state of Washington but he was also my bestie's nephew.  His engaging  eulogy of the life of his cousin, Ashley, gripped me.  He helped all of us understand and trust God when we want to scream "She was so young.  What about her widower husband now who loved her with all his heart?  What about their two-year old boy who misses his mommy?"  There are days we just don't understand God's ways.  But I am at peace to know Ashley is finally pain free and lives in Paradise. I glanced at her mom, Maureen, my best friend now for...

Spiritual Sundays ~ Wedding Anniversary

I remember when we sold one of our homes to a dancer who starred in one of the popular TV programs from the sixties. She decided to move to her Sedona property. She shared many things with me about Hollywood during each phase of the construction like when she dated Elvis. Personally, I’ve never been an Elvis fan, so I wasn’t impressed if he was a good kisser or not. The dancer married several times but now she found the dream man and now wanted the dream home. During one of her visits to my office, I was celebrating a wedding anniversary. I was taken aback when she asked me a personal question. What is the secret to a long- lasting marriage? I replied: “respect.” Ephesians 5:33 says” each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Women want to be loved and men want to be respected. Sounds simple right? Ask any married couple. It is not easy to do. Our 39th wedding anniversary is today! We are still working at this Biblical principle!...

I'm Going as Abigail This Year

I vote for more purses, toothbrushes, cups, storybooks, and Halloween costumes that feature Abigail of the Old Testament.  She is a heroin worthy to emulate, in my opinion, even more than Cinderella. Once upon a time, there was a kind woman by the name of Abigail who lived with a surly man who liked to drink a lot and have parties.  One time, King David and his army were very hungry and entered the surly man’s homestead and asked if they could come to his barbecue.  The king had a right to ask because he and his men protected the homestead’s boundary lines.  The surly man said “No.  Get off my property.”  The King had a temper and became offended. Surly drunk + spiteful King = War In the meantime, Abigail heard about the situation and spent hours baking cinnamon rolls for the King and his army.  She dismounted from her horse and presented the King with her peace offering.  She bowed low and greeted the King and asked his forgi...
