The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine Lab had been found in an oldfarmhouse, and he asked me a rhetorical question,''Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?''
I replied: "I had a drug problem when I was young: Iwas drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.
I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed myparents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.
I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and pick bales out of dad's fields.
I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, this country of ours would be a better place.
God bless the parents who drugged us."
My pastor shared this article at church last Sunday to make his point that we need fellowship, church and community in our families. The whole place cheered after he read it!
Be encouraged at Spiritual Sundays hosted by Ginger and Charlotte and have a wonderful Sunday, everybody.
Drugs...Top reason why there are so many in the jail now...And they're all running out of room, so some are released early...Nothing is learned. Taxpayers' money wasted...But there is only One Drug Who will cure it all...except some don't want to buy the idea of using It...Have a great weekend!Love to you sister.
ReplyDeleteOh Mary I can just hear the cheering! I am cheering on with you here and now! This is Awesome and yes....Let us Drug our children and grandchildren to the ONE who knows, who heals and restores each and every one of us to HIM.....where we need no rehab!

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI have heard this before and loved it then! Thanks for sharing it again. It's cute and it sure gets a good message across. It didn't hurt me one bit to get 'drugged!' Have a beautiful Sunday.
Blessings,
Sandi
Amen and amen again! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is one great post, and I am happy to say that I was drugged to . And I am so thankful for parents that drugged me. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue
Such truth!
ReplyDeleteI was never given the option to opt-out of church. It was what my family did. My parents were lavish in their love and attention, but we were rarely allowed to watch T.V., and Saturdays were work days. Everyone had chores.
It is a great heritage to have been "drugged" in such godly ways.
Blessings,
Kathleen
How true that is, a neat post ~
ReplyDeleteIm cheering right now too. Boy have times changed and not always for the better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. You brought a smile to my face.

Wow! Very interesting post ~Drugs are so devastating for so many. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteLove this, Mary! So true, so true. My mother's drug of choice was the long, skinny branches of the trees...she would break a few off, remove the leaves, and play a tune on my behind...Boy, those were good old days!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this...I'm passing it on to my son and DIL!
Blessings to you,
Mary
Applause applause! I would deal those drugs any day of the week!
ReplyDeleteAnd applause for your new blog header!
Thank God my Grandmother and Mother were drug dealers! PTL, LOL!! Now that I think of it, I come from a long line of drug dealers!! Thank the Lord that from generation to generation we are evidence that being drug to church has eternal lasting effects ......and we never have to go to rehab! He has already mightily intervened!!
ReplyDeleteSweet Blessings!
