Thankful Thursday ~ Baby Blessings

Our family is celebrating this week now that Baby Amy has joined the clan.  Twelve days late, a day in labor, and a rough delivery, her mom and dad are joyful that the suffering is behind them and their bundle of love is safely in their arms.








Susanna calls her Baby Button.  We call Susanna “Sookie.”  Sookie calls me “Groggy.”  Nicknames are fun!  Most importantly, this baby is called a child of God.  The best name! 

Her parents named her Amy which means “beloved.”  In Song of Solomon, 6:3, it says “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine; he feeds among the lilies.”  Amy Brooke is named after her two aunties, Amy and Brooke.  Here is the royal announcement:








I close with these words taken from Holy Scriptures and I am praying them over our family’s new baby:

We prayed for this child and the Lord granted what we asked of Him.  Now we give this baby to the Lord.  For her whole life she will be given over to the Lord.  (1 Sam 1:27-28)

You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.  Psalm 8:2

Our grand baby is a gift from the Lord; she is a reward from Him.  Psalm 127:3

You made all the delicate, inner parts of our grand baby’s body and knit her together in her mother’s womb.  Psalm 139:13

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.  Before you were born I set you apart.  Jeremiah 1:5

    Hi Mary! Many congratulations and blessings on the birth of Amy! Babies are just the best, aren't they? Especially our grandchildren.

    I'm so sorry that the labor was so hard. but I know that my Mom would say that after the labor, you forget it all, staring into the face of your new love.

A Memorial Day Reflection

  Memorial Day is always noteworthy for me and my girls.  Next Thursday marks the third year of missing their father, my husband. I'm Going as Abigail This Year

I vote for more purses, toothbrushes, cups, storybooks, and Halloween costumes that feature Abigail of the Old Testament.  She is a heroin worthy to emulate, in my opinion, even more than Cinderella. Once upon a time, there was a kind woman by the name of Abigail who lived with a surly man who liked to drink a lot and have parties.  One time, King David and his army were very hungry and entered the surly man’s homestead and asked if they could come to his barbecue.  The king had a right to ask because he and his men protected the homestead’s boundary lines.  The surly man said “No.  Get off my property.”  The King had a temper and became offended. Rescued!

Everybody likes the thought of being safe.  Who wants to be left out in the cold?  Not me.  That’s why I tacked Psalm 59:16 to a winter photo and shared it on my Facebook page. But as for me, I will sing about your power.      Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge,      a place of safety when I am in distress. An unusual cold air mass came through our part of the state a few weeks ago when I posted that photo.  My friend, Peggy, left a comment of how God specifically rescued her the cold night before giving muscle power to my photo creation of Scripture and snow!
