How Can We Lessen Their Suffering?

One thing that attracted me to my husband when I first met him was his compassion for the downtrodden.   It seemed out of the ordinary that a 20 year old serving in the U.S. Navy would notice poverty’s pain.   I was also attracted to his creative photography.   His slide show presentations would wow me with scenic shots of far-away countries interspersed with family shacks in the slums.   It left me a little heartbroken.    I married him and his burden for the suffering and our newlywed budget included sponsoring a child in a third world country. When our kids were little, we gave our hearts to Jesus.   I remember asking God how we can live our lives for Him and serve in His kingdom as a family.   I was surprised back then the way that prayer manifested.  It linked to compassion; our family would learn how to be compassionate.   A young, adult woman landed a job in our little town but she was homeless.   We opened up our hearts and home to this gal and many others in the

Thankful Thursday ~ Baby Blessings

  “ A baby is God’s opinion that life should go on .”   Carl Sandburg Our family is celebrating this week now that Baby Amy has joined the clan.   Twelve days late, a day in labor, and a rough delivery, her mom and dad are joyful that the suffering is behind them and their bundle of love is safely in their arms. Susanna calls her Baby Button.   We call Susanna “Sookie.”   Sookie calls me “Groggy.”   N icknames are fun!   Most importantly, this baby is called a child of God.   The best name!   Her parents named her Amy which means “beloved.”   In Song of Solomon, 6:3, it says “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine; he feeds among the lilies.”  Amy Brooke is named after her two aunties, Amy and Brooke.  Here is the royal announcement: I close with these words taken from Holy Scriptures and I am praying them over our family’s new baby: We prayed for this child and the Lord granted what we asked of Him.   Now we give this
