Name Your Song





Our pastor’s sermon last Sunday was taken from Psalm 133 which talks about unity.  Verse 1 says:  “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”  He made several good points about differences in the Body of Christ and how these differences become hurdles that we overcome in order to stand together in love for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I liked the creative way he showed those of us sitting in the 9:00 a.m. service just how different we all are.  He asked us to think of a song that describes our life.  People began shouting out titles to songs and some were hilarious, like Ann who sat behind me.  She yelled:  “I Will Survive!”  Remember that one by Gloria Gaynor?

Now that spring is here, I’m enjoying my prayer garden in the early hours of the morning.  It’s a wonderful setting to meet my Lord and praise Him along with the chirping birds, the blooming flowers and the rising son.  I feel His presence so close as I pray so the song that best describes my life is “Draw Me Close to You.”  It was written by Michael W. Smith and I often listen to Kathy Troccoli sing it on her Album, Draw Me Close To You.

    Your pastor sounds like such a charasmatic fella ... his question reminds me of those "What If?" books I adore.

    "My" song? While I SHOULD stop to ponder, the first thing that popped in my head was "Both Sides Now" (wasn't that Carole King)?

    I love the song you mentioned sister Mary. I also love the version sang by "The Katinas".

    Unity is indeed important and how fun for your pastor to make everyone in your church understand how important that is if we truly belong to Christ.

    Oh, it's hard to choose among my fav songs what describes my life. But lately,I'm hooked on "In My Own Little World" by Matthew West. I love it, too when he sang it with his guitar.

    I still remember that video you posted where you recorded yourself doing your devotion in your comfy garden. I still remember your sweet voice praying for us who visited you. You're truly beautiful inside and out as His love truly shines within you. I guess...you're indeed always drawing closer and closer to the Lord! God bless and protect you sister! Thanks for your prayers and I also remember you in mine.

    I enjoy those new chorus too, and have been especially remembering the older hymns as I would try to sing them from memory to my mother just before she passed on to glory.

    Hi Mary:

    I'm catching up a little bit today and your blog reminded me of that song. I used to sing it all the time and have kind of forgotten about it. I love both the words and the tune.

    I am a music lover, and it ministers so much to me. I don't have one theme song, but so many that are a blessing. Another old one I love was the Gaither's... 'something beautiful'. Remember that one?

    What a unique way to point out how we're all unique!

    My song? That's a tough one. Probably my favorite one from *our* generation was "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or "You've Got A Friend." I always used to think of Jesus when I sang the lyrics to those songs.

    As far as contemporary music, I really love "Revelation Song" - I belt out that chorus like a warrior:

    With all creation I sing,
    Praise to the King of kings,
    You are my everything,
    And I will adore You.

    Yes, that sums it up.

    There are so many oldies I could drop in here. I love the pop sound, and still enjoy a rousing cleaning session with the Beach Boys, or Neil Sedaka.

Marriage Tip #44: Do What He Wants

I thought about our upcoming anniversary.   I prayed one morning for the marriages in my family, and a sentence about my own dropped in my spirit:  “ Do What He Wants .”  I paused, “Really?”  He’s his own man.  What if I end up in the wilderness camping by night and target shooting by day?  What if a coyote decides to have me as a late night snack?
