Praying for our Nation

I can’t think of a better prayer for our nation this Independence Day than Billy Graham’s. We’ve all probably prayed it, but let’s pray it again for this great nation of America.

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!'

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story,' and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called 'One nation under God..'

  1. Amen and Amen.

Mary dear sister you and your family are on my heart and in my prayers. I emailed you yesterday.

    Love you.

  2. And if ever our nation needed prayer, it is today!

Thank you for sharing, and for the reminder.

P.S. I share Lisa's heartfelt prayers on your behalf.

  3. Mary,

I agree this is a great holiday to remember not only our freedom that was fought for but our freedom to pray and ask God to keep us in His care, leading us in His way. Amen!
    Have a great 4th!

  4. Amen Mary! God have mercy on this nation and our president/government.

  5. Wheww. Just got home sister Mary, hot day today! But I'm refreshed after reading what you shared. We need this kind of prayer, every day, too. I pray Americans will not turn their backs on our good God. Have a happy Independence Day and take care sister. Praying for you always. Love you in Christ...

  6. I say a loud amen to that prayer Mary! How true those words really are. I think we in the US have taken our freedoms for granted. The Lord has had His hand on our country and I feel that so many are turning away and not giving Him the glory He is due. I pray for our nation.

    Hugs to you Mary.

  7. I join you in prayer. We need more faithfulness, more truth, more grace. And we long for heaven . . .

  8. Perfect opportunity to pray for our country. Though every day is a good day as well!
Big hugs to you my friend and Happy 4th!!!

  9. AMEN!

Hope you have a beautiful weekend. I have been thinking about you and sending special prayers your way. You, my dear bloggy friend have been on my mind...No coincidence in GOD's family. You are an awesome friend and prayer warrior. I am inspired when I read your posts and your comments on my blogs. GOD BLESS YOU, andrea
