Happy Birthday to the Man I Love!

When I get older losing my hair, Many years from now, Will you still be sending me a valentine Birthday greetings bottle of wine? The Beatles I hope your Thanksgiving was as enjoyable as ours.   Christmas preparations are in the mix but our family is pausing this weekend as we celebrate one more thing:   my husband’s birthday tomorrow!   Tom turns 65! I’ll never forget the day I met him at a family party.   He was sitting down when I was introduced to him and when he stood up, I was swept over with his height, his dark hair & eyes and handsomeness.   His family suggested that we party again the following weekend to celebrate my 21 st birthday, but he turned to me and said:   “I would like to take you out to dinner next Saturday; I’ll pick you up at 7:00.”   I liked his decisiveness.   A whole week went by without a call and I wondered if he forgot.   At 7:00 he knocked at the door!   I liked his punctuality.   We had a great time.   We fell in l

Thankful for Leftovers

When the kids were little, we use to travel 235 miles over the mountains to grandma’s house for Thanksgiving every year. When we got back home, I never failed to get a call from mom and dad telling me they were fighting the blues from missing the kids every time they saw their little fingerprints on the window panes of their door! Thanksgiving Day is almost here.   I won’t be able to share this wonderful holiday with four year old Susanna this year as it is her Daddy’s turn, but I have a memory that I treasure. Last month when our family came together at my place for Susanna’s birthday, something wonderful happened as her and I colored together on the couch.   It was just after lunch one afternoon when her mommy wanted to go to Sedona with her sis to show fiancĂ© Paul the grandeur of the famous red rocks.   To my surprise, Susanna wanted to stay home with me, her Groggy. Sharing crayons and a color book, I asked her if she ever sang while she colored.   With that sh

The Brown Couch Lesson

My daughter, Carrie, moved over the weekend and I was stressing out because her brown leather couch is so big.   I couldn’t imagine how they would get it through her narrow staircase.   I chatted with Paul’s mom about it and she reassured me that if Paul analyzed the situation and had a plan, everything will be fine.   I will never forget the day two years ago when Carrie moved into that two-story apartment.   She toyed with the idea of selling that couch thinking it can't be carried in, but it was the most comfortable piece of furniture she owned.   It served us well over the months, giving family a good night’s sleep when we visited her.   The guys from church that moved her saved the day!   Two of them raised the couch to the top of the U-Haul and standing on top of the truck, they wrapped it with a rope while two other guys on the balcony hoisted it to the second floor where they carried it through the sliding door to the living room!   Too much drama for me!
