Friday Funnies

Our church’s most popular outreach event is the Women’s Spring Tea. It is a lovely and delicious event. I was asked to speak and share my testimony. I shared the stage with a few others who had testimonies of troubled times such as divorces, death of children and loss. I knew God would place me last on the program and I felt His guidance through prayer to write a humorous speech so that the Tea could end on a joyful note. I liked the tea party humor that the Lord helped me with to make everyone laugh a lot and to prepare my audience for my telling of His great work in my life. This was my beginning:

Last Christmas, I invited some of my neighbors to a little tea party at my home so that we could get to know one another better. I asked each one to bring a symbol of their faith. Maria, my Catholic neighbor next door, was the first to arrive. She brought a crucifix that hangs in her hallway. Peggy, across the street, is an atheist so she did not bring anything. Rachel, who lives several houses down the street is Jewish and she wore a charm bracelet with a Star of David. The last to arrive was Dee Dee, my neighbor from the street behind me. You gotta love Dee Dee! She walks in the door, late, as usual. She says “Hi, everyone! I’m Dee Dee. I’m a Baptist and I brought a casserole.”

I hope you will go to Homesteader's Heart and visit Kim today. She’s been gearing up all week for her big birthday celebration. She’s been sharing personal facts about herself so we can know her inside and out! It was Kim’s idea that we submit something personal and humorous about us today for Friday Funnies, so if you’re up to it, bless her by joining us with something funny about yourself! We'll have a great birthday party together, laughing a lot! Love you, Kimmy and happy, happy birthday!

  1. I love the I’m a Baptist and I brought a casserole.
That was too funny. With your question. Every day is another step to recovery for me. I am on a path to healing. I have received. the gift of Laughter, joy , love. and working on happiness as we speak. I suffered from depression. Most of my readers know my story. And can see day by day my recovery on my blog. It has helped me to find life again. in a lonely world. I can not rewrite my story. I wrote it once and deleted it. I try to only have happiness in my blog now. There are still some past story's I did not delete.
    Be blessed my friend.

  2. Hi sister Mary! It's nice when you hear a God-loving spirit who chooses to be positive and on the lighter side despite going through trials. The burden seem much lighter when we laugh. We forget the aches sometimes. You're a great blessing to that event.
    "I'm a Baptist and I brought a casserole" -LOL.
Heading back to work tonight after a break last weekend. Praying for you and others always. God bless you and your family. Love to you and have a great weekend.

  4. I can certainly identify with the Baptist casserole. LOL.

Mary, how wonderful that you were able to speak and bring some humor to the occasion. It seems so many have heartaches lately but it helps to have a moment in the midst of it all ...to laugh. I'm sure you are an inspiration to so many women in your church, not to mention your blogging world too!

I follow Kim of Homesteaders Heart and have enjoyed getting to know her better. I asked her the question about her salvation story so I have to also visit her on Sunday. Hugs to you.

The Venomous Intruder

It’s the middle of rattlesnake season here on the ranch.  The local news anchor confirmed it.   I’ve seen two already.    While driving along our dirt road yesterday, I mistook a virulent enemy for a branch. I backed up the car, looked again and noticed the branch shifted revealing a rattle at its end. At one of our road association meetings in the barn, Shelby stood up and shouted, “ BOB !” to my next door neighbor.  He’s our vice president and the one all eyes were on as he gave a presentation in the middle of the room.  I sensed fear in the way she yelled his name.  I learned after the meeting that Shelby called out to him like that because she saw a rattler slither in the barn door where she and I sat.  Bob yielded to the interruption and quietly dispatched the enemy.  Ten minutes later, this tough guy was back to center stage falling right back in step with the business at hand.   Bob is my new best friend. ...

A Memorial Day Reflection

Memorial Day is always noteworthy for me and my girls.  Next Thursday marks the third year of missing their father, my husband. So many thoughts  run through my mind.  The journey of loss takes on various emotions.  The strongest feeling, at first, was emptiness.  In a split second, I would forget he departed forever.  I imagined things I needed to talk to him about when he got back home.  My mind is realistic now.  He's not coming back.  There will be no more times of sitting on the porch swing together on the front deck staring at the moon and the stars.  He would tell me all he knew about the majestic night sky. I have so much I wish I could tell him, like the excitement of seeing our oldest grandchild make a decision to follow Jesus and get baptized on Mother's Day!  And our little Amy, 11 years old, I wish he could have seen her on stage receiving her induction to the National Honor Society. Our daughters have their own ...

Hearts for the Kingdom Author Interview

When I finished reading Hearts for the Kingdom last week, I contacted the author, Cho Larson.   We talked about the book and he graciously agreed to be my guest today.  Together we hope to inspire you in your journey of faith to pursue God with a heart that is alive and beating for the Kingdom of God. Mary:  Cho, when I finished your book, I felt loved and very close to my Savior. Cho:  I’m overwhelmed at the encouraging response to it. Mary:  How long did it take to write this book? Cho:  God works in mysterious ways. As I’ve observed God’s hand at work, it’s easy for me to picture Him as the Great Conductor, orchestrating everything in perfect harmony. Hearts for the Kingdom wasn’t my original plan, but after I sent another manuscript I was working on to my editor, while waiting for him to edit, the need became clear for a foundational book. This book required about six months to complete. Mary: as an author, what is the me...
