Those who live in the shelter of
the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
Psalm 91: 1,2
The
call came while I was at work. My
daughter was in a bad accident and I needed to leave immediately and get to the
scene. I prayed myself there arriving at
the messy highway strewn with broken windshield glass. My eye caught her shredded Letterman jacket. The face of a familiar fireman calmed me telling
me she is badly shaken, but okay, and he instructed me to head to the fire station. I spotted her in the center of the circle of firemen. She survived without a
scratch! I remember the noticeable
silence as I held her in my arms and shouted a prayer of thanksgiving to Jesus. He not only protected her but sent a
courageous woman driving by who stopped and removed her from the vehicle where she
hung suspended upside down. The sheriff
said she was driving too fast and when she came upon the hill, the car flipped
three times as a result of over-correction.
Weeks later our girl graduated from high school. I was so proud of her that night. An honor student and class speaker, she
testified to standing there that night and being alive because her God is
faithful.
I’ve
been meditating on this memory and, again, praising God as we head into the Thanksgiving
holiday in just a few days. My thankfulness to Him is as fresh as it was eighteen years ago.
I
just watched a story on the news about a 16 year old girl who survived a similar
accident. How well I know her mother’s
fears as she spoke of that late night call.
Her daughter’s car flipped four times and she is thankful she’s alive
even if she is bound to a wheel chair as a quadriplegic. This lovely gal worked through her disappointment
and pain and reached a new level of independence. Today her attitude reflects her remarkable
faith and choice to trust God for her future.
It’s inspiring how He uses her as His vessel to warn other teenagers about
poor driving habits.
It’s
meaningful at Thanksgiving to reflect on God’s faithfulness to us and to think
of those past events or people who have sprinkled our lives with the message of
His protection and love for us.
Happy
Thanksgiving!

What an incredible, moving story, Mary!
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the fact I know you've two healthy, beautiful daughters, my heart was hammering there for a while ... followed by my own tears of Thanksgiving!
Oh Mary, what a story! I remember calling my sons one evening several years ago as they were on the road coming home. My oldest answered, and barely got out that they had just been hit broadside and sent spinning across several lanes of freeway, where they had hit two other cars. My heart raced as I drove to be with them. Praise the Lord, they were also unhurt.
ReplyDeleteThis Thanksgiving, I'm with you - thanking the Lord for His protection and mercy.
Have a wonderful holiday!
GOD BLESS!
Thank you for this reminder. We have so much to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteGod often protects our children in unusual ways. When a loved one comes to your mind, perhaps it is time to pray for their protection. Sharon was impressed to call her sons, at the very time they were involved in an accident. These reminders alert us to surround our loved ones with prayer. Thanks for sharing this awesome story with us here at "Tell me a Story." I know angels were watching over your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to have time to blog roll and wish special sisters a Happy Thanksgiving. Yet, I was blessed first when I saw the footprints you left at my place.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful testimony sister Mary and actually, reminded me of my own incident and the bottom line, I knew that day He was there the way He guarded your daughter.
If I try to recall many things in my own journey, I know I could go on and on. You're right...It's so easy to recall even just one and not be able to control our hearts from giving Him thanks and from singing songs of praises. Hugs to you sister and may you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones and with our Savior.
A beautiful testimony to His faithfulness, Mary - so thankful your daughter survived! I see you live in beautiful Verde Valley AZ! I lived in Fountain Hills for 17 years - love AZ!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Thanksgiving!
So many miracles in our lives, both great like this one and much, much smaller every day. Wishes for a happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThis was absolutely amazing! I've known much around and about, and I'm very happy for you and yours. Thank for you for sharing both of yours and what the other lady went through. The consequences could have been much different, and filled with much sorrow. This was a toucher for me, b/c my kids and grandkids have been near driving situations, but nothing serious at this point. Whew! Again, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMary, what an insightful story and praise God your girl was safe. Our daughter and family just let us know they made it to family after a 16 hour drive through mostly bad weather. I pray you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeletePraise God for the hand of protection and the angelic escort He had sent to save your daughter from harm. We will be amazed at the many stories we will hear in heaven of how God had stepped in just in the nick of time, to stop a demonic scheme from touching us and our loved ones. This thanksgiving, there are many things to be thankful for. One of them, for me, is faithful blog friends who have remained connected to me through the years, giving me encouragement and hope. Have a beautiful thanksgiving dear Mary.
