My niece will be getting married in a few weeks.
Her mom asked me, do you have any practical advice for me? This will be
the first time she will be “mother of the bride.” “Yes, I do!”
1) Make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
2) Deflect stress with humor.
Here’s my
favorite mother-of-the- bride joke:
THE PERFECT DRESS
Jennifer's wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing could dampen
her excitement not even her parents' nasty divorce. Her mother had found the
PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best dressed mother-of-the-bride
ever!
A week later, Jennifer was horrified to learn that her father's
new young wife had bought the exact same dress!
Jennifer asked her to exchange it, but she refused.
"Absolutely not. I look like a million bucks in this dress, and I'm
wearing it," she replied. Jennifer told her mother who graciously said,
"Never mind sweetheart. I'll get another dress. After all, it's your
special day."
A few days later, they went shopping and did find another gorgeous
dress. When they stopped for lunch, Jennifer asked her mother, "Aren't you
going to return the other dress? You really don't have another occasion where
you could wear it."
Her mother just smiled and replied,
"Of course I do, dear. I'm wearing it to the rehearsal dinner
the night before the wedding."
Two antenna meet on a roof, fell in
love, and got married.
The ceremony wasn't much, but the
reception was great!
A little girl was at a wedding with
her parents. After the wedding, she asked her mother why the bride changed her
mind. "What do you mean?" her mother responded. "Well, she went
down the aisle with one man and came back with another."
Behind
every successful man stands a devoted wife and a surprised mother-in-law.
A
man inserted an 'ad' in the classifieds: 'Wife wanted'. Next day he
received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: 'You can have mine.'
Loved these ancedotes!
ReplyDeleteI’ve no daughters ... but have witnessed plenty of brides’ "Mom-zillas" behaving badly. Sometimes I want to tell them, “This is your daughter’s wedding – not YOURS!
I'm pretty sure this doesn't apply to your sister (sister-in-law)!
Great advice re. comfortable shoes!
Loved your advice! Very practical, and true. You shared some pretty funny jokes too! :)
ReplyDeleteFunny, lol
ReplyDeleteGood post...I love my daughter so much and her wedding was beautiful because I let her plan it. It helped that we were serving in Bolivia, South America through the planning part. We just got to come home and reap others labor. Good advice given sister. Blessings
ReplyDeleteyou got me smiling. Very cute....love that last one the best and the little cartoon.
ReplyDeleteGood advice Mary. I love your sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary -
ReplyDeleteThese are a hoot! Thank you for sharing the humor.
You crack me up, Mary!
ReplyDeleteAs for advice, I would simply echo yours to deflect stress. When my daughter got married in the mid-90s, I went with the idea that we were going to have more fun than anyone. And we did.
I love weddings ...
I love a good joke and these were all excellent! Best suggestion to a new MIL is to keep your advice to yourself unless it is asked for, then be kind, wise and tactful.
