Thankful Thursday

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Ps. 107:1

I am giving thanks to the Lord today; He has poured out blessings on me in so many ways:

I am thankful for a husband who likes to cook! Speaking of my husband, we finally got test results back from the hospital where he had an MRI, Catscan and echo cardio. He has had a mean cough since last summer, lost his taste buds and lost a lot of weight. Tests reveal Chronic Sinusitis. The new meds are helping!

My daughter, who I call Strength & Joy, visited me with her daughter this past Mother's Day and spent the whole week. We had so much fun clipping coupons together and then shopping with them, going out to lunch and taking the little one to the library's reading program.

What a joy to hear the sounds of my happy little granddaughter's voice all week. We sat out on the deck together reading storybooks, went to the playground, had tea parties when she woke from naps, and watched DVD's together. She introduced me to Max & Ruby, a wonderful cartoon for toddlers, by the way.

Have you played with Playdough recently? It's fun.

I returned her DVD's to the library and noticed a huge half-price sale. I leafed through the books looking for some deals so I could send one to my 96-year old mother who devours a good book in hours. I didn't recognize any authors until I prayed and then finally I found a few noteworthy Christian Fiction books I could send her featuring a loving gospel message. I'm thankful!

I'm thankful for answers to prayer for my co-worker and friend, Kay. She's felt like a zombie, unable to function, so we prayed. One day, she failed to take her medicine and woke up feeling sharp in her mind. The Lord showed her it was meds disagreeing with her system.

I'll end with thankfulness for being able to spend a few hours with my neighbor who is suffering from depression. When I got up to leave, I gave her some Joyce Meyer teachings and she was thankful! Thankfulness is catchy. I bet you are thankful, too, my precious blog buddies.

  1. What a booster this post is.

Thank God for husbands who not only love to eat but cook as well...daughters who grow up and become our best friends... grand daughters who help keep our creative juices flowing... mothers who can still be bookworms at 96...opportunities to show compassion to a neighbor...a co-worker...a friend.

I loved reading through your thank you list. I was particularly touched to read about your friend who is going through depression. This reminded me to go reach out to a dear friend who is also suffering from depression.

    Love

  2. Gratitude is one of the best antidotes for almost anything! Sounds like you had a wonderful week being blessed and refreshed by your daughter's and grand-daughter's presence ~ and then you turned around and gave of yourself to your neighbour. That's beautiful! What a blessing to read posts like this!!

  3. Amen and Amen dear sister!

I prayed for your husband and for your depressed friend as I read. I am praying for you, your daughter and granddaughter and for your precious Mom.

I love your Thank you's! I have many myself.

I can relate to what you said about your friend with the meds. During the medical challenges I had from Dec through now but was really DIFFICULT through end of March and one of the meds they gave to me gave me a bad reaction and I prayed and God showed me that what I was experiencing (almost blindness at that point) was due to the one of the meds. I STOPPED it immediately although the paperwork said not too. I OBEYED GOD.

I love you dear one and I'm thankful to our GOD for all that He is to our lives. He's an awesome GOD!

  4. Oh and yes to the Playdough! I have grandkids living here with us so I'm back to Play-Dough and chalk in the driveway (BIG SMILE).

  5. I am so thankful for your post! I love a rousing game of I am thankful for...

Your list is beautiful in it's simplicity and generosity. Amazing how we are most thankful when we are giving. Sounds like the Holy Spirit to me. :)

    Blessings, Debbie

A Memorial Day Reflection

Memorial Day is always noteworthy for me and my girls.  Next Thursday marks the third year of missing their father, my husband. So many thoughts  run through my mind.  The journey of loss takes on various emotions.  The strongest feeling, at first, was emptiness.  In a split second, I would forget he departed forever.  I imagined things I needed to talk to him about when he got back home.  My mind is realistic now.  He's not coming back.  There will be no more times of sitting on the porch swing together on the front deck staring at the moon and the stars.  He would tell me all he knew about the majestic night sky. I have so much I wish I could tell him, like the excitement of seeing our oldest grandchild make a decision to follow Jesus and get baptized on Mother's Day!  And our little Amy, 11 years old, I wish he could have seen her on stage receiving her induction to the National Honor Society. Our daughters have their own ...

Massive Wave; Need Prayer!

A few days ago, I dreamt that I was on the beach and a massive wave was approaching the shore but I didn’t move. I wondered why? It’s hard to write now on my blog. I’m going to focus on the Lord in prayer and His Word for a few weeks so please don’t worry about me. I need your prayers and encouragement. Your blogs lift me up when I visit you; I’m blessed to know so many bloggers who love Jesus and I will continue to read your posts and be inspired! Know that I hold your prayer requests near and dear to my heart and will continue to pray faithfully for you. That is a promise! The spiritual battle against my family rages. One precious sister commented to me that the warfare is not so much about all the issues that the enemy is falsely accusing our family members about as it is about the Name of God! This battle belongs to Him. I praise Him for His faithfulness. The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10 Please pray for the upcoming court ...

It's Not Always About the Tomatoes

I like to travel with buddies and rename them.  I vacationed in Costa Rica with Lupe who loves margaritas   and gets a little loopy.   I don’t drink but I’m a fun gal.  Just ask my co-worker, Frank.  I nicknamed him Jellyfish.  I packed my underwater camera.  Jellyfish can hold his breath really long.  He modeled for my underwater photo shoot in the colossal pool at the resort our company chose for us. I am fascinated with rain forests so my favorite thing to do in Costa Rica is to take walks in them.  I signed up for the tour of an organic cacao working farm.  Lupe chose it too.  A group of us piled into tractors to view crops of watermelon, mango, rice and cattle while we chewed on natural sugar cane, their largest product.  We observed monkeys, Toucans, and sloths. The best part of the tour for me taught about climate change and harvest time as we walked single file among papaya trees, cacao trees, as we...
