I remember when we sold one of our homes to a dancer who starred in one of the popular TV programs from the sixties. She decided to move to her Sedona property. She shared many things with me about Hollywood during each phase of the construction like when she dated Elvis. Personally, I’ve never been an Elvis fan, so I wasn’t impressed if he was a good kisser or not. The dancer married several times but now she found the dream man and now wanted the dream home. During one of her visits to my office, I was celebrating a wedding anniversary. I was taken aback when she asked me a personal question. What is the secret to a long- lasting marriage? I replied: “respect.”
Ephesians 5:33 says” each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Women want to be loved and men want to be respected. Sounds simple right? Ask any married couple. It is not easy to do.

Our 39th wedding anniversary is today! We are still working at this Biblical principle! Elvis is still irrelevant. I have a man who fears God and serves Him. God’s Word is powerful beyond my wildest dreams! He is faithful to sustain us.

very good advice - should have told us who it was - curious minds want to know. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Your advice is excellent. I'll have to confess, I loved Elvis. LOL Of course I wasn't the only one.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful anniversary weekend.
Blessings,
Charlotte
Happy Anniversary!!! Such a beautiful wedding pictue and I love your current pic too. I hope you have many, many more. The Bible tell us all we need to know. We just have to read it and then follow it. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! We just celebrated our 45 last Saturday.
ReplyDeleteLike Charlotte, I love Elvis--didn't love him nearly as much as a teenager as I did later on. My heart went out to him and I pray he knew the Lord when he drew his last breath.
But you really hit the nail on the head--RESPECT--I think that is the best one-word answer you could have given.
Hope you have many, many more happy years together!
Happy Anniversary to the both of you. This is so neat to read. The pics of you guys are great....
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful time of celebration together...

Oh Mary, happy anniversary to the two of you. I agree about your assessment of a successful marriage. It is respect that a man craves. And in response a wife wants to be loved and security.
ReplyDeleteI pray that you have a wonderful day celebrating your love.
Much love,
Debbie
Oh Mary, I'm so taken with your wedding moment (please, won't you share more pictures someday?).
ReplyDeleteBut I'm struck by the simplicity, the Truth behind your one-word credo. That word sounds ordinary, but no ...it carries a whallop!
Congrations!
Happy Anniversary! You two make a beautiful couple.:)
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for working hard at your marriage for 39 years...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!

Happy Anniversary to both of you!!! Marriage is constant work. But to learn how to compromise and respect is surely a winning attitude! Rooted in Him, even better! You are a beautiful couple, inside and out! God bless you and may He give you both many, many more anniversaries to come!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your Anniversary. What a beautiful testimony you must be to those who know you. It isn't easy to find that kind of example anymore. To many, many more...Patty
ReplyDeleteWise words, and Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteAmen...and that respect we are called to is more than this world's definition of respect...respecting our husband even when we don't 'feel' of 'think' he deserves it...beautiful reminder....and Happy Anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI did not join in on Spriritual Sunday, but I do like to go around to each blog reading everyones thoughts and inspirations. I am also following you.

I’ve been visiting Arizona this week. It’s so different than my home state of Alabama. God made both beautiful in their own ways.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! I agree with you that respect is so crucial. Blessings on many more years to come.
Happy Anniversary! Respect is the answer! And I have great respect for people like you two. You are an example to all. (I was and am an Elvis fan. I saw him in a small Texas town before he became extremely famous. I liked him as a singer but I RESPECT you.)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary sweet smiling friend!!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this and viewing your pictures. Such a beautiful loving couple you both are and a fine example of God's love together as man and wife to all of us.

ReplyDeleteA man who fears God and serves Him could be no greater a gift to his bride of 39 years. How precious!

Mary:
ReplyDeleteThis brought back many memories for me. My beloved husband, Bob, is gone [with the Lord almost 4 years now] but on August 5th, 2 days before your anniversary of 39 years we would have celebrated 38 years together. We made 34 of them. I celebrated in remembrance alone with the Lord that day last week - remembering the goodness of the Lord to us - through ups and downs and in sickness and in health! God is good all the time and all the time God is good!
Blessings to you on 39 years! I'm not an Elvis fan either.
God is now my husband and He takes wonderful care of His bride!
Blessings for many more years together for you and your hubby!
To God be the glory for both of our marriages!
Stephanie
PS: Still praying for you and the family.

ReplyDeleteI was soooo very blessed to learn this prinicple from our LifeCoach a few years back! To understand that the Lord instructed this and apply it was such a revelation and yet something that as you said must be worked on continuously!!
