It became a competition among the women to see who could hang the best-looking lines of clothes! There was a certain way to hang everything, and your "status" in the neighborhood depended upon your ability to keep house, cook meals, and hang clothes!

Thanks for reminding me of days gone by. :-)Beth E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04996230415386423039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6769884556887226680.post-17203998697264706592011-02-21T10:12:55.395-07:002011-02-21T10:12:55.395-07:00Boy did that ever take me back! I can't remember the last time I saw clothes on a line. I've seen clothes in the dryer, clothes in the laundry basket, even clothes on the floor...but not on lines...not no more :)Deborah Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14415814125499548149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6769884556887226680.post-81905965474369913512011-02-21T04:57:14.862-07:002011-02-21T04:57:14.862-07:00Hi, I couldn't believe there were no longer cl...Hi, I couldn't believe there were no longer closthes lines in America. I, too, helped my mother and grandmother hang clothes on the lines in the yard. When weather was bad we hung them on the porch. Those were such wonderful years. I would love to have a clothesline once again! :-)Diannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15916346102440260126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6769884556887226680.post-40171065319551170802011-02-18T10:49:00.754-07:002011-02-18T10:49:00.754-07:00Did you write the poem? A few years after my marriage my parents received their first dryer. My daddy would not use it at first ... after a while (cold winter) he began to use it. Once Spring arrived he returned to the clothesline. Oh Mary I miss him so.

God bless you my friend for making me remember a "good" memory.

Hugs,
BrenGrace on the Narrow Pathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161275623876776951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6769884556887226680.post-6978684432813407772011-02-18T06:00:03.866-07:002011-02-18T06:00:03.866-07:00Oh I loved that poem. The dryer uses up so much electricity and I'm doing laundry ALL THE TIME! LOL!
So look for me in my backyard this Spring, granny panties and all. LOL!

Have a great day my friend.
KimKim @ Homesteader's Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03787975654863452911noreply@blogger.com
