Name Your Song

Our pastor’s sermon last Sunday was taken from Psalm 133 which talks about unity.  Verse 1 says:  “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”  He made several good points about differences in the Body of Christ and how these differences become hurdles that we overcome in order to stand together in love for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I liked the creative way he showed those of us sitting in the 9:00 a.m. service just how different we all are.  He asked us to think of a song that describes our life.  People began shouting out titles to songs and some were hilarious, like Ann who sat behind me.  She yelled:  “I Will Survive!”  Remember that one by Gloria Gaynor? Now that spring is here, I’m enjoying my prayer garden in the early hours of the morning.  It’s a wonderful setting to meet my Lord and praise Him along with the chirping birds, the blooming flowers and the rising son.  I feel His presence so close as I pray so

Friday Funnies ~ A Trip to Rome

A Trip To Rome A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:   "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"   “We're taking BA," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"   "BA?" exclaimed the hairdresser.    "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"   We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste."   “Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump." "We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."   "That's rich," laughed the hairdresser.

Stand By Me

I just finished the book, Stand By Me, written by Neta Jackson, and I feel like I’ve just been to a reunion with my Yada Yada Sisters!   Stand By Me is the first book in Jackson’s new series, SouledOut Sisters, and it features Avis Douglass whom I’ve always admired in past novels but felt inferior to until I got to know her in this novel!   She is just like me, juggling responsibilities at home, church and work and has an adult daughter with a lot of drama. The story unfolds around a new character, Kat, studying for her Master’s Degree at a Chicago university.     Her life becomes intertwined with Avis when she attends SoldOut Community Church and moves with her friends into the same apartment building as Avis.   Life situations begin to emerge and you find yourself dealing with forgiveness, church life, racial tension, praying and surrendering, homelessness, abuse, gossip, and death.    You find yourself thinking about important questions like “What attracted me to Jesus in the

Random Smiles

This past week has been good for some laughs at our house.   To begin with, our cat jumped into the center of our Messianic Seder dinner table last Friday evening during Passover.   Muppy is well behaved and isolates herself   from others so we were shocked when she crashed our party and her tail caught on fire.   My husband's wit was sharp as he explained that we were suppose to roast a lamb tonight, but instead we will use our cat.   Oy vey, the smell of burnt fir! When the night began, we all took bets on how long it would be before my son-in-law's pressed, white shirt would stain.  That has been pretty much his history.   I was so careful sitting across from him, and I meticulously poured the grape juice slowly for each cup we raised in prayer.   Even with the surprise of the cat jumping on the table, and four cups of grape juice later, he was "stainless!"  That's a first!   My granddaughter called me over the weekend to tell me about the basket sh
