Love of Kindred

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time. -- Laura Ingalls Wilder Like so many families, we hold dearest the times we have together during the Christmas holidays. I’m sharing today some of our highlights! We ate way too much rich food. We played Arizona Monopoly and I won! Susanna proudly gave a gift to her Papa, a pink flamingo, that was drawn with her handprint! We enjoyed Susanna’s delight at seeing Mickey Mouse at the Red Rock Fantasy Light Show. I love having my family near this week!

Tangled in the Lights

This Christmas I’m loving the bright lights that I’m seeing everywhere. I’ve strung them in new ways throughout my home and the evenings beckon me to quiet down and enjoy the twinkling show. I smiled when I read Maya Angelou’s quote: 'I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.' I haven’t found myself tangled in the lights, at least not physically! However, it’s easy at Christmastime to get emotionally tangled in all the seasonal hype. But today I stumbled across a scripture verse that I’m embracing: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 8: 12 Praise Jesus, the Light of the World! Merry Christmas to you, my precious friends. May you and I be drawn to Jesus like never before in the coming year.

Spiritual First Aid

Do you find it hard to forgive sometimes, especially when someone hurts you or worse yet, hurts one of your kids? Forgiveness is a topic I am working through in my spiritual life right now and I write about it at Lisa Shaw's link, Ladies on a Mission . I hope you will stop by and visit me there today. Click here . Praise Jesus! He is the Balm, the spiritual first aid needed for every wound.

A Christmas Joke ~ It's Scottish

A man in Scotland calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says: "I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough". "Dad, what are you talking about?'" the son screams. "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer", the father says. "We're sick of each other and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her". Frantically, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone, "Like heck they're getting divorced", she shouts, "I'll take care of this". She calls Scotland immediately and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and she hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his w

Christmas Pie

Christmas hugs to you, my friends, and thank you for stopping by to cheer me on a few days ago. I felt overwhelmed, but I found the recipe of my dreams through your encouragement and now I have the perfect Christmas present for my boss. Sassy Granny steered me in the right direction and I not only prepared a delicious Sweet Potato Pie, but it was so easy. Doesn’t it look wonderful? Wish you were here with me. I cherish each and every one of you! I would put on the coffee and tea and serve you pie. Then I would take my little festive book off the shelf, “ The Christmas Conversation Piece ,” and ask you a question. Let’s see….how about this one: “ If you had to give the same gift to everyone on your Christmas list, what would it be?” Here’s a picture I found of me and the boss at a Christmas party several years ago. I read an article in a women’s magazine that was intriguing. It stated that if you really want to impress the boss, dress like he/she does! So I went to the party in the same
