Spritual Sundays ~ Transitions

If you’ve been going through a time of discontentment, frustration, severing or fear, you might be transitioning into a new chapter in your life. Last Friday, our Life Group discussed “Seasons: A Time for Everything” which was taken from our pastor’s sermon using Ecclesiastes 3: 1-15. Besides reminding ourselves that there is a season for everything under heaven, we acknowledged the emotional ups and downs we face in transitions. Only one of us thought change is exciting and adventurous. The rest of us confessed that we are control freaks! The main point in this sermon was “hold everything loosely in your hands.” For me, this was the most interesting part of our discussion because I know I need more spontaneity and trust in God. One of the gals in the group, Peggy, shared a prayer she starts her day with and I’ve put it to the test this past week to help me control less and surrender more! I’m amazed. I’ll start with my day off last Monday. I thought I was staying home and freezing pea

Friday Funnies

I shipped out for M.C.R.D., San Diego from Indianapolis Indiana , November 1969. I jumped off of the bus and stood on the yellow footprints for what seemed like a week. Then a D.I. About 5 feet tall walked up to the guy next to me and said "My name is Sgt Stone and I'm tougher than my name. What's yours sweetheart?" The young recruit answered "Billings, Sir." "Well Billings, I've got my eyes on you", screamed the D.I. He then walked 2 rows behind me and looked straight into the navel of a huge recruit and screamed "My name is Sgt Stone and I'm tougher than my name. What's yours, maggot?" "Mullrooney, Sir" answered the recruit. "Mullrooney, don't think your size is gonna help you...I'll break you in half if you p-ss me off!" Then suddenly the D.I. Ran at full speed and stopped, facing the last guy in my row. He was a scrawny kid 4'5'' tall and 100 pounds. The D.I . Pulled his Smo

Why I Count It All Joy Wednesday!

How much does God love it when His children raise their hands in praise and acknowledge joy in everyday life? That’s what I’m choosing to do by connecting with Angel, at All the Muse , where joy abounds! The summer rainstorms have been hitting my state and last Friday, it was rainy all day and cooler. I baked two peach pies to take to my Life Group that night and another pie for Mark and Amy, our kids who live nearby. What joy to share my harvest! The peaches are delicious this year! On Monday, I accompanied my daughter, Amy, to her doctor in Flagstaff, a mountain town up north. Afterward, we enjoyed lunch at an old hotel built in 1900. It was cool and the rain gently fell as we ate in the lovely atmosphere of the old Victorian dining room with a backdrop of gently falling rain outside! I was in my element. Amy said my face was shining with delight! When we left to walk back to our car parked two blocks away, the thunder and lightening became near. Then it got even closer. Then the t

Spiritual Sundays ~ Today Could Be The Day

We were surprised last weekend. Out of the blue, our boss walked through the front door of our office. The man is a legend in Arizona being one of the top most successful businessmen in the state. It has been a privilege to be on his sales team over the last fifteen years. His business locations spread out all across the state and none of his managers ever know when he may decide to pop in for a visit. Consequently, it pays to dress according to code and keep the office running efficiently as well as making sure the product is polished and presentations are sharp! I don’t want to be caught off guard. I was prepared last Saturday. I loved his compliments of our sales lot. I loved even better the meal that we all shared together at the restaurant after work! It’s like that in my spiritual life, too. Jesus said that He is coming back for me and I better be ready. Will He find me faithful to what He’s entrusted to me? Will He find me clean in thought and deed? He better not find me snooz

Friday Funnies ~ Wife from Hell

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says: “Clocked you at 80 miles per hours, Sir.” The driver says: “Gee, Officer, I had it on cruise control at 60; perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.” Not looking up from her knitting, the wife says: “Now don’t be silly, dear—you know that this car doesn’t have cruise control.” As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls. “Can’t you please keep your mouth shut for once?” The wife smiles demurely and says: “Well, dear, you should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did or your speed would have been higher.” As the officer makes out the second ticket for illegal radar detector unit, the man growls at his wife and says through clenched teeth, “Woman, can’t you keep your mouth shut?” The officer frowns and says, “And I notice that you are not wearing your seat belt, Sir.” “That’s an automatic $75 fine.” The driver says: “Yeah, well, you see, Of

On The Reservation Without a Reservation

It was 30 years ago when I fell madly in love with Jesus and I asked Him into my heart. I prayed for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and noticed that my desires changed. I now yearned to be a powerful Christian full of commitment. I signed up for faith on steroids. Our young family decided to pack up the camping gear and camp from Illinois to Arizona to visit my mom and dad. I was so confident in my newfound faith that I asked to take over the wheel once we arrived in Arizona. However, I got off course and we ended up further north than the route my husband outlined. I woke up my sleeping husband and told him all about the Indian Reservation I was driving through. It was getting late and I prayed for lodging because there wasn’t time to set up our tent. We finally came to a village on the Navajo reservation with a resort! However, every room was booked. Tom told me to take our girls, then four and one, to the restroom and clean them up because we will have no othe

Counting It All Joy!

I’m counting it all joy this Wednesday along with Angel at All The Muse . We started the week off with another sale! We’re grateful for the Lord’s provision. A rainstorm moved upon us over the weekend blessing us with a half-inch of water that fell and was ever so refreshing in this hot desert! But most days, we have to water all our trees and flowers and our vegetable garden. I joined my husband this morning at 6:00 a.m. and forty five minutes later, we were done. The corn is high! It looks like we’ll have a bunch of pumpkins this year. Pretty soon I’ll be picking the peaches and making pie! Yum. I leave you with a good word that I found this morning in John 10:29: For my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father's hand. I was so encouraged when I saw this. I believe and continue to pray for loved ones who have walked away from Jesus. May they come home soon! Talk about joy!

Spiritual Sunday: Freedom or Free?

What a difference three missing letters make. What these protesters need is FREEDOM, not FREE, since nothing in this world is really free except salvation in Jesus Christ. And even that isn’t truly free since Jesus had to pay the price with his life in dying on the cross for our sins. I'm carrying a different sign. It reads: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor 3:17 Thanks to Charlotte and Ginger for hosting Spiritual Sundays and to all the great writers there.

Friday Funnies: The Italian Tomato Garden

An old Italian lived alone in New Jersey. He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament. Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Papa, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now

Count It All Joy Wednesday!

I was inspired today as I visited All the Mus , where Angel challenges us to count it all joy. Piles of Smiles definitely needs to be part of this joy today because the Lord is repeatedly reminding me to rejoice at all times. It doesn’t matter what circumstances look like, we are making a decision to rejoice today. We face some challenges, but the joy of the Lord is our strength. Here’s my joyful contribution: I am so glad Loren told me about Pandora. I am enjoying it on my computer at home and even at work. I get to praise the Lord at the office. Hallelujah! Am I happy that a new beauty salon opened up in my town! My now new hairdresser works mostly in the upscale salons of Sedona but she lives locally here in Dodge so we benefit from her investment in this little salon and she works here three days a week. I had such a great time with her exchanging photos and stories of our granddaughters that when my hair was done, I was shocked that my new style turned out so good. I forgot she wa

Spiritual Sunday

Happy Fourth of July to all of you this weekend. I'm thinking of our country's great beginning, built upon the Word of God. My daughter, Amy, sent me this great message by Tamara Lowe. You may have heard it. I can hear it again and again! I'm praying for Amy this week. I will be taking her to the hospital this coming Thursday, July 8th, for a biopsy on her thyroid. She is a registered nurse and believes in God's healing for her and others. Special thanks to Ginger and Charlotte who host Spiritual Sundays!
