My Kind of Town

My flight to Chicago is just hours away. Thank you, dear friends, for all the well wishes and prayers for this trip back to my hometown for a family reunion. I will not be posting anything until the beginning of June. I will miss reading about what is going on at your websites! Your friendships mean a lot to me. I’ll catch up with you when I return. Blessings to each and every one of you.

Friday Funnies

How many Christians does it take to change a light bulb? Charismatics: Only 1 their hands are already in the air. Pentecostals: 10 One to change the bulb, and nine to pray against the spirits of darkness. Presbyterians: None Lights will go on and off at predestined times. Baptists: At least 15. One to change the light bulb, and three committees to approve the change and decide who brings the potato salad and fried chicken. .....and they all said, "Amen!" Episcopalians: 3 One to call the electrician, one to mix the drinks and one to talk about how much better the old one was. Methodists: Undetermined whether your light is bright, dull, or completely out, you are loved. You can be a light bulb, turnip bulb, or tulip bulb. Bring a bulb of your choice to the Sunday lighting service and a covered dish to pass. Amish: What's a light bulb? Quakers: None The congregation will sit quietly thinking and meditating on light bulb changing. Nazarenes: 6 One woman to replace the bulb wh

The Grand Canyon

A few years ago, we took a trip to the Grand Canyon with our daughter and her husband. We had a business errand that required us to be just about 20 miles south of Grand Canyon National Park, so we invited the kids to go along and spend the weekend with us. The theme today for Thankful Thursday is “Thanking God for nature.” I’m thankful for not only the privilege of living in the beautiful state of Arizona with its diverse beauty, but I’m thanking God for the lovely memory we created as a family that weekend. The month was November and we just celebrated Thanksgiving! How appropriate to post this memory today and thank God for His beauty all around us as well as the family with which He has blessed me. Here’s a few facts about the Grand Canyon before I share a photo: The Canyon is 277 miles long and ranges from 4 to 18 miles wide. It is over a mile deep. The Grand Canyon is majestic. It is the creation. God, our Father and Creator is our rock and refuge. His beauty is seen in the small

Singing to My Sister

How many of you are the middle child? I have 2 brothers, one older and one younger. My sister is the eldest. She is celebrating her birthday next week and I will be in Illinois, visiting her, and helping her eat her birthday cake! I’m so thankful God gave me a sister: We shared a bedroom together growing up; we rarely shared our clothes. Every Christmas holiday, we spent hours decorating pretty cookies. To this day, we still love to thrift-store shop. We both grow petunias and hollyhocks just like our grandmother! We took vacations together with our husbands to Florida and California. We love old movies, romance, Victorian clothing and Victoria Magazine! Happy birthday, Sis! I love you and will soon be there to give you lots of hugs! Sisters She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime; your midnight companion someone who knows when you are smiling, eve

Spiritual Sunday - Paga!

Paga in Hebrew means to encounter or meet or entreat and make intercession. A few years ago, I attended a class on prayer using Dutch Sheets’ book, Intercessory Prayer. Another name for intercessory prayer time is called a “she bear meeting”. You don’t get between a bear and her cubs. There will be an ugly meeting. This is called “Paga!” This video reminded me of that study. It is the story of a stray bear cub who encounters a cougar and is in perilous danger. There is a surprise ending that reflects the meaning of Paga! For more Spiritual Sunday posts, go to http://bloggerspirit.blogspot.com .

Friday Funnies

This is a cure for ADHD. For more laughs, go to Kim's website . Happy Friday!
What do you see when you are in the company of an attractive woman who does not have the wisdom of God? Beauty fades from a woman who does not search for God’s answers to life’s situations. I invited the Lord into my life in my mid 20’s after having just enough time to live a while on this planet making foolish decisions and lacking in discernment. How thankful I am that He swept me off my feet and exchanged my backward ways for His wisdom. And to think that he is eager to repair, eager to train and give new perspective to life, makes me stop and reflect how thankful I am for God’s wisdom every day. I had a new baby girl when I dedicated my life to Christ. I was a nervous, protective mother and very careful about where I would take my new daughter and whose influence I would allow. Wisdom came to me, and God began to show me my fears and replace them with confidence. He placed wonderful Christian women in my life to mentor me. He gave me the wisdom to look within myself and realize tha
This Indiana Congressman, Rep. Pence, was not afraid to stand up in Congress and proclaim that we, indeed, are a nation of prayer!

My Prayer Garden

Several months ago, I clearly was impressed to set aside a quiet place outdoors where I can pray and read the Bible. I asked my husband what he thought about this. Not only did he agree, he began to tackle the project and now I have a prayer garden just outside of my home where the birds feed and some dogs bark! It is here that I enjoy my morning coffee and spend time with God and pray for my loved ones. I want you to know that I take it seriously when you ask for prayer; those requests go on my list to pray for each day. Do you seek the Lord for a word of encouragement? I do. Today’s word comes from Romans 8:11: But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. I don’t know about you, but I’m grabbing this one with all my heart. I’m thankful that His power lives in me like that helping me to not give into my flesh today, but live for Him. Praise God f

Spiritual Sunday ~ Mother's Day

Quotes about motherhood: “The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.” Honore’ deBalzac (1799-1850) “Youth fades; love drops, the leaves of friendship fall; a mother’s secret hope outlives them all.” Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1865) “I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.” Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Speaking of prayer, here are a few scripture prayers a mother prays for her children: May my children grow to find your Word “more precious than gold, than much pure gold and sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.” Psalm 19:10 Lord, let salvation spring up within my children, that they may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Isaiah 45:8, 2Timothy 2:10 Let love and faithfulness never leave my children, but bind these twin virtues around their necks and write them on the tablet of their hearts. Proverbs 3:3. Happy Mother's Day! Thank you G

It's so much fun to be a part of making the world smile today with Kim and my sisters at Homesteader's Heart . I'm submitting some Mother's Day humor for us to have some fun with today. Have a great Friday and have a wonderful Mother's Day this weekend! Why God Made Moms These answers given by elementary school age children to the following questions: Why Did God Make Mothers? 1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us. 2. Magic, plus super powers and a lot of stirring. 3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts. What Ingredients Are Mothers Made Of? 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and a dab of mean. 2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Thankful Thursday ~ Moms

The topic Lynn chose for us today is thanking God for our Moms! Mine lives 1800 miles away and I miss her and thank God for her. Ginger is 94. Ginger is not her birth name, but she loves it, so why not? At 94, does it matter? There are so many things that she taught me in life. I'll name a few: 1. Her gift of hospitality turned our little home into a haven of homemade meals and baked goods. You would feel so welcome there. 2. Ginger prays with all her heart for her family and friends. She loves the house of God. 3. She loves my children with a passion and enjoys hearing about their lives. If I could emulate two things about Ginger it would be her sense of humor and her determination. A few years ago, she took a nasty fall and the neighbor freaked out with all the blood on her face. When I called the hospital, my Mom's reply to me was "You should have seen the other guy!" When I purchased email for her at 90, she was frustrated. She was determined to communicate wit

The Golden Heart Award ~ I'm Honored to Receive

I am so honored to receive this award today not only from one, but two of my sisters in Christ. Rosel, from Off the Beaten Trek nominated me and I urge you to visit her. She is evangelically bent and has a wonderful way of encouraging souls to take the plunge and meet Jesus! Alleluiabelle from Humble As I Go also was kind enough to think I deserve this. Her blog is a wonderful combination of deep poetry and prose from the heart and she shares her grandchildren now and then and they are delightful. Alle is an example to all of us when it comes to overcoming. Thank you both for nominating me. When I began blogging last September, I didn't know how this worked. I loved reading blogs; I would get so encouraged. I wanted to give back and asked my husband if he thought I had anything to give to others. He answered, "Give them your smile." Jesus gave me a smile. I was pathetic at one time, but he gave me so much joy and now I'm a work in progress and want to share my journey

Isn't She Lovely

Isn't she pretty Truly the angel's best Boy, I'm so happy We have been heaven blessed I can't believe what God has done Through us he's given life to one But isn't she lovely made from love These lyrics are my favorite from Stevie Wonder’s song Isn’t She Lovely. Children are a blessing and my wish is that every child would be welcomed into this world with these sentiments. This is a slide show of my trip to San Diego last week. A great big thanks to several of you who prayed for Susanna. Your prayers are powerful. The fever left and she began to sleep more comfortably again. Grammy slept more peacefully, too!

Thirty Days and Counting

Thank you, Charlotte & Ginger, for hosting Spiritual Sundays . I look so forward to the weekend and reading everyone's uplifting messages of faith! You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes . James 4:14 The question today is “What would you do if you only were going to be on this earth for 30 more days?” I was watching Kerry Shook on Christian TV; he and his wife, Chris, wrote the book, “One Month to Live”. This book sparks controversy and has become a catalyst for discussion in Christian circles. People are sharing their priorities. Small groups are abounding in the churches that participate in this challenge. I asked a few close friends to tell me what comes to mind as they think about spending their last month on this earth. My girlfriend’s answer was similar to my husband’s. They both said they would quit their jobs! A guy in my office told me it would take about a month to put
